While I'm still not quite convinced this does sound somewhat comforting. I just hope that Fanatic will focus more on getting miniatures released for core armies instead of variant lists. -After all it is fairly easy to convert and/or use proxies for say aa Baal Predator but it is pretty darn difficult to come up with anything to use as stand ins for Nid infantry.
The playtest should continue in the way it is now. The lists can allways go up in the Vault so people have access to them. However I feel that the resources spent on variant llists' miniatures such as the Siegemasters and Feral Orks could have been better used to produce minis for some other core armies instead. With the slowdown in miniatures releases it can be a VERY long wait before some of the ranges are relased...

Cheers! :)

I can only agree 100% with WMN on issue of variant lists.
After Epic A covering SM, IG & Orks SH should have released a supplement covering Eldar, Nids & Chaos. I presume that they could do a similar update of the plastic sprues of infantry and re-release some of the main metal vehicles- enough to get playable armies out for the big 6 Epic armies.

Then once these had been released SG could have done variant lists such as Siegemasters, Feral Orks and Balck Templars.

One of the reasons that Epic A did not take off at our local wargames club was that the Chaos & Nid players were unhappy at being unable to play with their armies with official basic lists right from the start. They probably would have accepted waiting until now for the 2nd wave of releases but were not happy at having to wait until some date far in the future that seems to be put back each time the release schedule was updated.

How many IG/Ork players would rush out and buy Siegemasters/Feral Orks? Some but I reckon far less than would have gone out and bought Chaos/Nids.

Anyway after set retirement in Wizkids clix games I am fairly used to being dissapointed in the actions/spin being put out by gaming companies.

Maybe this could be good news- gives me longer to paint existing armies/fleets..

Cheers

James

Hi!

I was sceptical from the start with Epic A being relaised without support for ALL armies from the getgo, its bad form.

If you an imperial or ork player, life is great. If you play chaos or tyranids, as insomniac mentions, not too much fun.

If I could only predict the lotto numbers so easily.... :;): :p

Hi!

When GW and epic are in the mix I'd say both...

...as it evolves it devolves.... :;):

I have come to peace with this. If GW does increase support and do so in ways that make the game better, I win. If they don?t and the game goes back into a dormant state, people will sell off their epic on ebay and I win.

So I have come to a zen state of mind and no longer feel the need to care. I will still work within the system for as long as it works and then I will buy up minis and wait for the ?Epic Mini Winter? to pass again.

I mean I always have the rule book and there is always Netepic.

Your scaring me Dafrca....

Hi!

The "news" of the fanatics "downsizing" has finally made its way to the main GW forums like portent, usenet and others.

Pretty much everyone has "read between" the lines and taken the news for what it really means..

..cost cutting, downsizing and generally "shafting" SG non core games.

Carry on. :)

Hmmm....since we are all in consensus (it seems) that GW is pretty much going to kick Epic into the crapper again, maybe we should start letting it slip all over the net that GW Headquarters is really the place where all the terrorists stay!  Then, either the government will take it over or blow it up, or the terrorists will!  :p

Or is that thought just a product of an angry deranged mind? :O :O :O

Just quickly - is this evolution or devolution?

Its revolution....

Specialist are run by GW main.
Then theres Fanatic.
Then theres specialist games studio.
Now its GW main.

Specialist games were in WD.
Then the Journal.
Then seperate mags.
Then Fanatic Mag.
Now probably only in print in WD (if Fanatic mag goes 100% online).

Its definitely Revolving....

Back to the real topic, as I posted yesterday on the SG forums:

Whilst I'll admit to not liking the sound of this re-oranisation, in the past 48 hours I've had to keep reminding myself of how it used to be for epic.

It wasnt that long ago that Epic's online presence was limited to a few sites & we were all pretty much known to one another as the epic community was simply that small. There was simply no support & certainly no forseeable hope of new miniatures.

Whilst this latest move does currently sound like a turn for the worse after the great sucesses so far, it is certainly stil a great step FORWARD from where we were with epic for a few years after E40Ks premature demise.

As long as there is something there by way of support, we should be thankful for it - its more than those of us who actually liked Epic40K got from GW main!

I guess that I have three main concerns:

Firstly, that things are going back to how they were before, with SG now a part of GW proper. I dont like that at all. When SG first came into being, it was like fresh air, and all of those things that GW had lost over the years seemed to be reappearing. Epic and Gothic and others simply cant compete with 40K, and they should not have to. More than that, the way that they are developed and marketted should be different. I am worried that GW proper simply wont recognise this.

Secondly, I really dont want Fanatic mag to be online. I want to be able to buy rule books and suppliments. If they are developed and tested online, then that is fine, but I really want a final 'official and tested' product to be available to those who want it.

Thirdly, if SG design the Tyranids and then stop I will be fine, as long as they make everything available again. My worry is that things will actually go backwards. With E40K we had all of the ranges available, and the bits and they were always there, even things like Exodites. Now, with the redesign, all of the minis were halted and the available range reduced. If this change leads to a 'dry up' of SG minis, then we will have no direct source and that could be a problem.

Aside from that, if only the existing range remains, then I will be happy. If Fanatic continues in magazine form, and the Tyranids get a redesign, then that will be OK by me even if nothing else happens.

But, already I am starting to sound like Fanatic is dead... it is not yet!

I spent $60 on a Fanatic sub...

I want a physical mag not on line. I had to convert my Epic Mag to Fanatic. Before that Firepower became Epic Mag.

I do have a W/D sub, and I plan on keeping that.

But this latest news does not look good for Epic! I'd rather have just one mag and W/D used to be that mag...

More wait and see... :{

I think the action of the next few weeks will really tell how bad it is.

But as I said, I figure in the long run I will gain in some way. More fun new stuff or a much larger collection for a smaller summ as people sell off. :D

Hi!

I'm real glad I didn't subscribe to that overpriced mag.

Although they did say they'd give you your money back if they can it.
