If I understood correctly, the French team's flight was rescheduled and they didn't realise it.

More generally, I think we just have to accept that the flight times will always be problematic for players, no matter what time the games are played. For example if you run one game on the Friday, some people might only be able to get evening flights and therefore would have to come on Thursday. It's good to acknowledge its a problem and try to give thought to timings, but my feeling is that running games on Friday could hurt as many people as it will help.

the photos above and the ones I've seen posted elsewhere so far show some pretty amazing painting and models - half of me is inspired to try and raise my game and half of me wants to give up.

Those forests made me smile though :)

Painting was to an extremely high standard, I had no idea between maybe a dozen armies who would get best army. Forests were like they were as I didn't pick up the main box of trees

My thought was also that such stuff should be clear before the tournament, so you avoid situations where one team plans on using monday for travel while another books an early flight sunday.

But if the airline rescheduled, that wasn't what happened this time.

There's a joke in there somewhere about 'not being able to see for the tree'....

I'll get my coat!

Hi,

the german teams is also back at home. We took the flight this morning so we had plenty of time for the games expo.
Many thanks to my opponents for 5 nice games. The painting standard was high.. the table could have been nicer.. but it was an extremely good tournament. Many thanks to Steve and Dave.

greetings from Berlin and until next year in Sweden,
Mathias

This was a great event following the successful founding event in Berlin. I will put up some battle reports later but I think all the teams came out of it with great credit, apart from Team UK North that is now descending into internal recriminations following their embarrassing defeat to Team UK South!!!!!! ;D ;)

The obvious thing is that the UK Teams finished highest, but I felt that this was more down to army lists than quality of play. I felt all of my opponents were capable players and that with slightly different armies they would be challenging for higher placings. Therefore I feel that Team UK should not be complacent going to Sweden, as I am sure the European Teams will be researching lists and come back even stronger next year.

I think there were the following positives that each team brought to the event:

1. Team UK - You had to admire their ruthless efficiency in destroying all of our hopes and dreams
2. Team UK South - Fair to say we surprised everyone with our performance including ourselves!
3. Team UK North - Great bunch of lads who I'm sure everyone enjoyed playing
4. Team Viking - They had some quality play and I predict with home advantage and their strongest players available they will be competing for the top prize next year.
5. Team Germany - They may not have brought the most competitive lists but they did bring some of the most varied and strikingly different ones. Home made models and armies you don't see much in the UK such as World Eaters were a very welcome sight.
6. Team France - With typical French style their armies looked amazing.

Go Vikings, go!

Sorry, just had to let that out. Brilliant event Steve and gang! I was very happy to attend and meet so many nice players.

I'm quite happy with my playing apart from the game against Tim where I think I surrendered mentally before even getting to deployment. I kept blaming myself for not picking corners for deployment, rushed at the Ferals out of the gate as if it was the final turn and even intermingled two formations by accident. Not my finest moment, but a good learning experience. In general I was not disappointed by facing all of the flavours of Orks during the tournament as I got a feeling for how other (and better admittedly) Ork players play.

Thanks to all and especially Rob, Tim, Mathias (in spite of killing my Great Gargant), Julo and Darren for some lovely games with plenty of crazy rolls and laughs.

That has got to be one of the most memorable tournaments I have been to, from so many perspectives. Echoing the others, many thanks to Dave and Steve for running it, to the various teams for overcoming cost and distance to attend it with so many amazing armies

Many thanks also to Stephan, Sascha, Kevin, Tim and Cornelius for five well fought games, possibly the high point of which being my two Warhounds fighting off half of Tim's feral orks leaving us with a straight points draw at the end of a very gruelling day.

I have told my wife that the next event is in Stockholm, and she is already making plans to come over as well, so if the plans come to fruition we will turn the event into a small holiday. That may also help to minimise the impact of any travel issues.

Finally, I was also amazed at the variety of games and other distractions at Expo, and fully intend to go next year, though may need to find some way of curbing my spending to reasonable limits.

Go Vikings go! Really nice to see you exceed my expectations this time :D

Looks like I was totally wrong about the german team. What happened? Three of you guys had a strong showing last year!

Interesting that the lists may have been the deciding factor this year. Last year our (Norfingers) lists were proclaimed to be the weakest by at least one poster and probably more, and we got second. Is it simply that the brits are familiar with EUK lists and not that familiar with what NetEA lists can do? Doesn't sound right.

Being familiar to the Epic UK lists might have been a very marginal advantage, but not a massive one. Team Viking, Germany and France all comprised intelligent players who appeared to pick up the new lists pretty well from what I can see. The UK has a very strong tournament scene giving players good experience of what works and for me this is the biggest advantage. I looked at the lists before the event and was able to predict most of those that would do well or poorly.

I think that each year the gap will get smaller as the players return to their respective countries with lessons learned, and then plan to be stronger next year.

The UK is extremely transparent in showing everyone what lists we all take at events and what lists did best on the Epic UK website. Therefore this can be used to work out what improvements can be made to lists for next year to close the 'lists gap'.

That is assuming that countries want more competitive lists. For me the beautiful French lists and excitingly different German lists were a very positive contribution to the event, and the respective players from these countries may prefer these more creative focuses to simply just trying to win again next year, and I for one would have no problem if they did as I'd be very happy to see what original and beautiful lists they bring. I do think the Swedes will be challenging for the top places, and Team Norway might be the dark horses.

The best part of this, I think, is the exchange of ideas and the networking that Brumbaer and the guys imagined when they set it up from the beginning.

People who are interested in the Swedish tournament scene will do well to join the "Epic 40k Scandinavia" group on Facebook were events, lists and final scoring is published for the bigger happenings. Usually there's a small buzz here as well, but the main action seems to be on FB.

Edit: There is also a ranking here.

A big "Thank You!" to the organizers, my esteemed opponents, and all the other Epic players that I met at the event. The event ran smoothly, even with the last minute schedule changes, and the armies on display ranged from great to unbelievable.

The games were great - played in a friendly atmosphere, against highly competent players wielding very strong armies. I learned a lot, and look forward to returning in force next year in Stockholm.

The venue was terrific too - It's my first visit to an Games Expo this size, and I enjoyed it hugely. The combination of EEC + Expo really made it a worthwhile trip (lost luggage on the way home notwithstanding - the suitcase arrived a day after me).

Now to drum up a Team DK, and I'll be seeing you all next year, I'm sure!
