Another great day of epic indulgence...
Thanks to all who attended and helped make this a great tourney. Thanks in particular to Steve54, RichardL and E&C for three enjoyable games.
Game 1 was vs Steve54 and his Tau. I've never faced Tau, and by playing Steve who was fighting hard to remain in contention for the championship, I wasn't expecting an easy lesson! Despite trying to push up and take the fight to the Tau, the sheer volume of firepower they we kicking out was preventing me from making much headway. Even when I got the drop on him in turn two and jumped on his exposed and very vulnerable BTS, the dice deserted me and I bounced off. I hunted down his BTS with my aircraft over the remainder of the turns, but didn't have enough activations on the ground to prevent Steve from securing a 3-1 win. My really stabbed me in the back on the final turn, with not a single activation, rally test, walker terrain check or shot going my way. Still; good fun and an enjoyable game.
Game 2 was against RichardL and his gorgeous Eldar. I've played Rich once before, and he gave me a complete schooling with his Guard. As I normally know how to deal with guard, I was NOT looking forward to taking on him with Eldar as I struggle against them as it is! First turn and my dice carried on where they left off against Steve, one after one after one. Conversely everything Rich threw against me tore large chunks out of me. Man, Wraithguard are tough! The dice started to shift (about time!) and after some staggeringly good shooting from my fighters, I jumped on his BTS; Wraithguard mounted in grav tanks. By doublings up on the tanks i was able to prevent any of the WG getting out and using their superior FF abilities and one the assault. Sadly the fearless nature of the buggers meant that, while they stayed broken, I wasn't able to finish them off. I contested Rich's blitz and T&H for what looked like a 3-2 loss (which I was quite happy about), but a final-turn-final-activation saw him able to march someone back to contest his blitz and deny me both, ensuring a 3-0 loss. Never mind, a fun see-sawing game which was a lot closer then the last time we met!
Game 3 saw me moved 6 feet to my left and take up residence on the bottom table against E&Cs landing craft horde.
A cagey game this one; with only three activations on the table to start with saw Ben sagely keeping his stuff out of trouble and me moving up without anything to shoot at.
Then the aircraft starting turning up.
First LC rocked up, disgorged some predators and ripped apart the mech aspect of one of my mech formations.
Second one came in with a load of Wolves (bikes) and beat up my un-meched mech mob who had started cowering in some buildings. Final one flew past, shouting obscenities, and shooting I-forget-what.
I trundles my dual Zzap mob around the corner and (Nat, you'll love this) scores two hit, blowing up one of the LC. The resultant critical also turned the extremely nearby wolves into kebab meat...
It was round about this point that the dice gods abandoned E&C.
His terminators teleported in at the start of T3 (I thought waiting until T3 was some sage impact plan E&C had devised - turns out lack of sleep was catching up and he forgot them during T2!), but picked up a blast marker on the way in. Then I got the drop on him for initiative.
Jumped on his termies with everything that was nearby, and justifying my decision to arm them with hammers, they wiped out the marines, gaining me BTS in the bargain.
I was able to keep the pressure on, and deny E&C the activations he needed to contest objectives and secure a 3-0 win (blitz, BTS, T&H). Another really enjoyable game against E&C. That makes four now, and leaves us 2-2 I think....
See you next time guys...!
Cheers Reedar
