I tweaked the list a bit since playing Guard for the very first time last weekend and realising my list was a bit poor (this was prior to anyone posting their list up so no unfair advantage gained). Consequently I don't need to borrow a Warhound afterall now thanks guys. Still need 7 Chimeras though please Tim.

Reg HQ, Hydra
Mech Inf, Hydra
Inf Comp, Fire Support
Manticores
Manticores
Rough Riders
Sentinels
Warhound
Warhound
Warhound
Thunderbolts

Are any of you guys going in the Halloween fancy dress they're encouraging? I'm considering it.

Normally not shaving is scary enough for me.

I don't think even a silent movie star is going to be any help to you Tim,unless his walking stick "counts as" a CC MW extra attack  :p .

It's good to see some others having their Supreme Commander also being their BTS.

I think it should be compulsory that the most important figure in the army should be a goal to the opponent.

p.s. No it's nothing to do with mine being a fearless Daemon Prince

Well Tim I like the termies + dreds in the LC (and have used it often in the past).  :agree: - - - - but it can be a bit hit-&-miss as you suggest, so either way it is likely to be a quick game; but good luck anyway - - - and don't forget the walking stick

Sorry I couldn't make it today guys. Wife has come down with a case of mastitis and left me holding the baby.

I was looking forward to handing out the beatings with my Ultramarines and salivating at the prospect of what looked like an Ork heavy tournament after having a lot of success against Orks in playtesting.   :O

Anyway, I hope everyone had some good games and an enjoyable day. See you all on the circuit next year.   :grinning:

Thanks all for a good day (even for the drubbing from Steve G who eventually won)

Game #1 against Reedar.
Reedar fielded a good looking Ork army in his first tournament, deployed behind two formations of scouts with a Gargant and one formation of Fighta Bombaz. The Eldar hung back as intended, then pounced on a blitz brigade that was intermingled with the scouts and a big warband, and things then rapidly from bad to worse for the Orks with Reedar throwing really bad dice while I threw exceptionally well. 4-0

Game #2 against Steve G
I seem fated to fight Steve in every tournament, they are always tense and enjoyable battles and this was no different. Steve fielded a Marine drop army with a spaceship, two ThunderHawks and two WarHounds leading up the ground-pounders, but decided to deploy most of the army on the table. The barrage from the empty Spaceship broke one bike formation and damaged the Eldar BTS but failed to hurt a Guardian formation. A cautious start by both side saw both sides probing the centre of the table, with the Eldar gaining a small advantage. So when the Marines won the #2 strategy Role Steve gambled, teleporting his Termies near the Eldar BTS aspects and bikes. With a Warhound in support the terminators assaulted, the fight went two rounds finally destroying the Eldar BTS, and my usual dice rolling then returned with a vengence. 0-4

Game #3 against Dave T.
Amazingly though I have played nearly 20 tournaments, this is the 1st tournament game I have played against Dave. His LatD covens just about fitted on the table with a Defiler formation guarding his Blitz in one corner. Dave's ledgendary dice deserted him for the early part of the game while both sides cautiously probed the centre with the Eldar finally mounting an assault to destroy a coven. In turn #2 the Eldar consolidated their hold on the left centre and set up for turn #3 but the LatD cleverly withdrew just out of range. Although the Eldar were able to press home their activation advantage in turn #3, neither side gained any objectives and we unfortunately ran out of time. 0-0 draw

Many thanks to Darren, Steve and especially Dave for three really superb games despite the time pressures.

Do you mean took a risk before the strat dice were rolled? (As termies teleport before teh strat roll!)

spot on TRC. Steve had not used any Tactical formations in order to boost his activation count, and had his ground forces quite widely spread. I had three major assaults set up that would use hit-and-run to bounce forward to a point where they would control one T&H objective and threaten the Blitz.

He decided to teleport his termies behind my BTS Aspects before the strategy roll (gaining a teleport BM), in a 50:50 gamble that they could kill this formation first. Had I won the strategy roll, the BTS would have completed the planned assault taking the formation far away from the termies, and leaving them in limbo (as Steve had put his T&H objectives on each side table edge).

As it was, even with all the advantages he could muster, Steve only just managed to draw the 1st assault resolution. However the 2nd round was decisive, resulting in the complete destruction of my BTS, wrecking the 'rolling assault' and effectively putting my army on the back-foot from where it did not recover (due to a ridiculous number of failed activations).

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone I met yesterday.  I had an awesome time, and topped it off nicely with 3 really enjoyable games.

Despite the drubbing I received from Gavin in game 1 and his highly educational 'lesson' whilst performing a clipping assault on my intermingled formations, I really enjoyed it! Gavin; a massive thanks to you sir for taking the time to take me through everything during our game. Much appreciated.
You'll be pleased to know I learnt much from our game, didn't make the same mistakes again (only news ones instead...), and even ended the day with a win.

Game two was against Marcus, another player making his tournement debut.  Great game with high casulties on both sides.  Highlight for me being the two detachments of Assault marines which jumped out of a T-hawk, rushed into a combat, got soundly beaten an promptly rushed off again!  The remaining two stands somehow ending the game helping contest his own blitz!

Finished the day against Sam and his execellently modelled Orks, including a 950pt warband riding along in 4 gunfortresses!
I'd like to make an apology at this point.  In my first game against Gavin I (very quickly) developed an unerring ability to throw nothing but 1's and 2's.  This bounced back against poor Sam. In a big way.

My ability in game 3 to through critical after critical against all his war engines actually left me feeling guilty!  Blowing his Landa + onboard warband out the sky as it attempted a ground assault on turn 1 was just a sign of things to come.  By the end of the game I (iirc) think they had all suffered the same fate.
Another really enjoyable game against a great opponent who didn't let his misfortune stop him smiling.

All in all a great day and looking forward to next time I can attend.   :agree:

Cheers

Reedar/Darren

P.S. I've found a bag of fancy dress in my boot!  Ryan/Glynn/Russ - anyone want to claim it?

P.P.S. Speaking of cars.  A word of warning to anyone undertaking a road trip involving MoK navigating; buy SatNav!!!!

:p

Cheers all
