I have just finished a good few hours of work on World Eaters V1.3 tonight and I envision it's release to be this Sunday.

My major goals for this weekend before it's release is to :

1. Finalise the Battlemaw Cannon effect on the Tower of Skulls War Engine
2. Finalise the Doom Mortar effects of the Doom Blaster War Engine
3. Settle on a price for the Tower of Skulls War Engine
4. Settle on a price for the Doom Blaster War Engine
5. Write up the Battle report from this Thursday past as the first playtest of V1.3

So if there are any ideas for goals 1-4 before Sunday, it would be great to them.

Cheers....    :agree:

Apologies for the delay.

The grunt work is finally finished. I am just proof reading the whole of the appendix to make sure it is good enough for release.

This will not just be an army list, it will be a supplement. Although it is not another Epic Raiders or Seige, it is the best I could do with the limited time I gave myself.

At the end of the day, we all do the best with what we have.

Hopefully within the next 48 hours.

Cheers....

World Eaters V1.3 Supplement - Last Updated 28/10/2009

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well this is it. The realease of the V1.3 Supplement

It incorporates the following additions:

- Acknowledgments and thank-yous
- Beastmen (currently being playtested - funky new rules)
- Ogryn Berzerkers (currently being playtested - funky new rules)
- A seperate World Eaters Apocalypse List - Under Development
- World Eaters History
- World Eaters 101

It has also brought on-board the great talents of Apocolocyntosis who in a future supplement will take over the modelling and painting section to really fill out the supplement. To World Eaters (at least), Apocolocyntosis is the best thing since cranial implants!

Also I have been able to second the services of Thomas “Machinatorâ€Â

Looks very professional - good job :agree:

Some queries-

What is the onslaught upgrade?

What counts as an assault walker in the upgrades?

Why the standard price for drop pods rather than per unit transported?

I can't see any reason why you wouldn't go all-out drop pod with this list - the Blood Rage rule basically gives you a free retain, so there is no risk at all in the spaceship/drop/assault process. You can upgrade the retinues with dreads and still drop for the same cost. In combination with the fact that the daemon engines make it probably the most 'shooty' CSM army it makes it a powerful looking list - also as now the ogryns and abhhumans make perfect ground holding formations+upgrades.

Daemon engines - why would you ever take any of them over the death dealer or doomblaster?

IMO the army has too many 'new' units - is representing every apoc unit necessary?

Terminators - why the teleport upgrade - this doesn't feature in any other list?

Some queries-

Thanks. Some great questions you have raised Steve. Let's see if I can get some buy-in with the answers. here we go:

Quote:

These upgrades can be found in the 'World Eater Upgrades' section of the list. They are all alphabetical.

Quote:

Why the standard price for drop pods rather than per unit transported?

The initial probelm with WoE was that they could not buy enough units to effectively be competative. Seeing the main attack of the Berserkers is through Drop Pods, we made them Berserkers cheaper as a ground unit and added the cost to the Drop Pods. If you want to drop pod with them, you are paying the full cost of what the unit was made for. As for individual costs of Drop Pods to units, I personally believe this is an older Black Legion rule that needs to be changed.

The World Eaters make for a great Drop Pod army. That is correct. I think you will find the points for drop pods comparable however to the Black Legion who pay per unit cost in this regard. So the more you buy, the better the relationship becomes. As for the Bloodrage rule, WoE do one thing and only one thing well, and that is HtH. It has been shown however that Overwatch will quickly decimate or greatly reduce most WoE charges. As for the free retain, well the Blast Marker is still earned, which combined against Overwatch, is really detrimental. These WoE have a hell of a time trying to remove them once they are gained as an action spent removing a BM means no Double or March movement. A waste really.

Quote:

They are extremely short ranged. Playtests have showed that their costs and low numbers really play in the hands of an experienced opponent rather than the WoE favour (alot of the time). Yet they are a small boost, nowhere near the shootiness a Black Legion force can call up.

Quote:

- also as now the ogryns and abhhumans make perfect ground holding formations+upgrades.

These are being playtested now. They allow Berserkers to now have a ground based force rather than subjecting themselves to only be a Drop Pod force (which can get very boring). Remember, they do not shoot, so they are at a disadvantage from across a table. As for ground holding units, the last game had Beastmen shot up with ease (they are worse than orks due to numbers and lack of disposable units).

Quote:

Are you referring to the Apocalypse list? That is the only place they exist as War Engines. If so, there are no Daemon Engines in that list. They have been removed in favour of developing the Apocalypse list for fans who want to play it in line with current GW dogma.

Edit: Sorry. Misread. This area is as balanced as we could get it. Funnily enough however, the Death Dealer and Doom Blaster are the least taken. I must try them out more...

Quote:

IMO the army has too many 'new' units - is representing every apoc unit necessary?

The list was made for people that want to play World Eaters and not be subjected to just one type of playstyle. The army list allows one to play many aspects of the World Eaters in the different eras. I made it for the fans.

It is also important to note that the compositions that you may find will be unbeatable have been beaten quite effectively in recent games. Even the Drop pod force with two teleporting Terminators was decimated by Blish's force (yet to be reported on - due in November)

Quote:

Terminators - why the teleport upgrade - this doesn't feature in any other list?

Yet another feature of the rules that I think should change. Why pay for teleport if it is not going to be used? It's addition really boosts the unit so it is there as an extra. If you take them as a ground unit, then you should not be disadvantaged. Also it fits in with the force structure as they pay extra for a dying technology that probably cannot be replaced once damaged or lost.

I hope this answers the questions. It may seem powerful, yet test games so far (albeit the Hellblades which I am campaigning to be changed across lists) is sufficiently balanced.

What you perceive as a killer force is usually "done-in" to many other competative forces. They are great in HtH combat no doubt, and you almost feel guilty rolling all those dice. However the outcome of the protracted battle is rarely what you expected. That in essence is Khorne.

I would welcome people to playtest for themselves. Ultimately, even though I am losing games and getting utterly smashed (where once I was winning most of the time), I have never really had as much fun playing with the alternatives (v0.9 - v1.2) than I have had with this list (V1.3). I just hope others can enjoy it too.

This battle is what is going on at the moment.

It is unique in that both units are predominantly ground forces (or so I was told before my opponent placed down 4 units of skimmer - ground units indeed!)

The only things that have kept the game alive for the World Eaters are the Abhuman upgrades in the Berserker units. Otherwise it probably would have been game over in turn 2. So I am happy to say that they appear to have a workable ground game plan as well now. Maybe Morgan as an opponent can give his findings just in case I am being biased - Morgan?

We are up to Turn 4 currently. I will get the final result out hopefully this week some time.

With your tests are the opponents taking 'blind' lists or preparing for what they think you are bringing?

Great work frogbear, as has been said its looking very professional. Im also pleased to see the beastmen back :)

Small formatting point, in the history section etc you still have tiny margins but only one column, this makes for a very long line length. Maybe use a two column layout as at the start of the list?
*edit* also, '- The Cleansing of Agritta' looks strange on p27, should it have the same formatting as the other sub-sub heads/H3s. In the foresworn warband black crusade fleet lists your using *s for list items, elsewhere in the document your using hyphens.

As frogbear mentioned, ill be working on a modelling section, although it may take a while as i currently have a heavy work load.

I always take a blind list, and from what normally goes on, most people do.

:agree:

That's pretty much how it goes in our group. We take armies to try stuff out all the time. Seeing we own several armies, it is sometimes hard to determine what you will come up against. Against me however, people generally know that I am testing the WoE.

If you know what you are coming up against, then you can metagame to a certain extent - something I hope our group does not devolve into as it stumps the ability to learn new tactics.

I will have a small break from the design but I will try this one out as well.

I will get to this also. Probably just a cut and paste issue...

You are a great addition to the project Apoc. :agree: It is really good to have you on board. Your minis are awesome and desreve to be involved in such projects.

Also, I will get you the format and font this weekend as discussed   :)

As you have a grand two attempts at playing them I would gladly use them against you at some point.

TRC

Do you mean you taking Iyanden or WoE?

I have the Heavy Bolter Tournament next week and am working throughout the week. I will contact you on MSN when you are on to try and organise a game...

I have the Heavy Bolter Tournament next week

What are you bringing to Heavy Bolter, FB?

I'm in Melbourne now, got in a game with the "Monday Knights" club, on Monday, and am looking forward to meeting more players on Saturday.
