They look flash!  The bases work great.

Thanks Mark

Yes the bases really help the units come to life. It is true that a good base on a mini will bring even a standard paint job to a new level. Also blue against yellow is always a winner as well.

These look brilliant, as has been said before the FOW bases on the vehicles work very well. Ive always been against the basing of tracked vehicles, but now i think i could be tempted to try it :)

Well I have bought over 100 bases I think. Every one of my armies will utilize these I think.

Nice one Frog!

Yellow is very hard to do right. Well done.

As a suggestion, have you tried Scorched Brown as a base edging? I use it a lot on my bases - I have the same ash-waste/rubble look on my minis - and it sets off the black/grey really nicely IMO. It might work nicely with the yellow. Give it a try, you can always paint over it again  :agree:

Hey Dobbsy

Any hints you can give I will definately take on   :)

I will give it a go with my next lot.

I have decided to start on some bikes and dreadnoughts (rather than more Land Raiders). I am really inspired by Vaaish's Dreadnoughts, and I have found an awesome picture in the Visions of Horus Heresy book that has a Saggitarius Custodian Dreadnought that is almost the same style with embelishments that I am going to use as a guide.

I'm far from a expert but I find Vermin Brown works best.

I will do a few test bases.

Thanks Onyx for your support. If you have any tips, I hold you in high regard as well for your experiences.

Cheers.....

I started to try and take off a Chaplain with a broken weapon, but then I felt sorry for the little guy. Also seeing that I may potentially come up short of a chaplain, I decided to start on giving him back a weapon.

So now my first adventure into greenstuff for epic begins:

While I was at that, the dreads started to get some colour added:

They have since had a wash added. I will place these on hold for now as I work on the bikes

Finally, I need some advise please.

Note: Forget about how gungy the mini looks. These are works in progress and still need alot added. It is taken with a macro shot and enlarged so people will see blotchy paint (thanks to the ink wash). These are better looked at from not such a close and detailed shot. I perhaps will go over with another yellow to brighten it up more and get rid of the shine from the yellow ink.

What I need advise on is what is better for the back of the bike? The yellow of the darker colour?  I am leaning towards the darker colour fins, but would like an opinion or two as well.

Thanks in advance..

the black makes a nice accent on the back and keeps you from being overwhelmed with yellow.

Your Imperial Fists look gorgeous Frogbear, that yellow is just brilliant. I'd definitely go for the darker colour on the fins, it helps to let that marine stand out a bit. That Chaplain repair is beginning to look awesome too, it amazes me how much people can do with greenstuff, the stuff terrifies me.  :)

Employee of the month is this Inanimate Carbon Rod! (simpsons reference) :)

Looking good froggy, I love the imp fists and when done well they look awesome. Great to see the army growing.

Good luck with the greenstuffing it just seems way to small for me :)

Haarken

Thanks Haarken

I find that after the white undercoat, I use a wet pallette to place golden yellow on the mini. That does not give a great coat, but then I do a 2nd coat of golden yellow and the brightness really starts to build up. If the paint is thin enough, you can go a 3rd coat yet I have never found this to be necessary.

After this I do a straight wash with Gryphonne Sepia. I do not water the wash down, it goes straight on. If there is too much build up, then I dip the brush in clean water and try and disperse some of the wash.

After that, I build up the layers of yellow again on the higher surfaces.

The close up of the bike above was me experimenting with yellow ink. I find that it comes off very shiny. I may use it for the bikes, yet keep it away from the rider. Not too sure yet.

As for the fins on the bike, you are right, I am going to keep the darker back. It looks quite good when looking at the model with the human eye. The Macro camera shot really brings up details that the human eye does not see, and maybe should not   :;):

Looks like I will have to continue the painting now that I have strated it again. I hope to get the bikes finished this week if possible.

Thanks for your support   :agree:

Thanks dude.

You would not believe just how small that weapon actually is. I do not know how many of the other people are doing modelling with Greenstuff as it is not always the easiest thing to work with. Sometimes it sticks to the tool and causes no end of frustration.

It would be easier to leave it as a Simpson rod, but I am going to go the Crozius and see how I go. Hopefully it does not turn out to be a blob   :p

Cheers dude
