Sorry, sorry...I shouldn't post in the early hours of the morning, I'm usually grouchy, its simply when people keep picking at background that hasn't been codified after I've consented to remaking all the list background as the Legio the community wants, I get a little exasperated.
No worries. Since the discussion was on the background and official sources, I thought you were putting forward those names as being from something GW published.
Personally, I don't think a "legio" designation is required for the post-Heresy legions. If they remained semi-intact and kept the same name as some of them did, that's fine. If they changed their name, though, I don't see a reason for them to keep the old legio designation or create a new one.
If you just want to make up names, that's fine as well. But you've seen that even around here with a pretty relaxed group that inventing new stuff can be problematic. It might be easier to just make up a legion from scratch than to try to merge GW material and your own creations.

Silver Scythes background from CJ:
The Legion of Festering Death, formally known by the Imperium as the Silver Scythes, had been based on the rim of Imperial space when the Heresy swept the Imperium into civil war. Overlooked by many and far away from the bulk of the fighting the legion's commanders quickly succumbed ot the lure of Chaos and entered the fray, siding with the Lord of Decay. The Legion set about bringing famine and pestilence to the worlds on the rim and unleashed ancient plagues upon the planets, thus winning their Lord's favour. There's considerably more about Bubonis specifically, but that's because the CJ article focused a lot more on the character titans than the legions as a whole.
