Yes. They are going to KEEP epic. However they won't be EXPANDING epic as THAT would cost more.

Minimum resources to sell as much of existing stuff as possible. Why spend any more resources in that situation?

Unfortunately, no it's not:

warehouse space
production queues
IT overhead
administrative overhead
mould creation and casting (for any new miniature)

Managing several full ranges of additional products is hardly free. In fact, while I do not know the data I'm willing to bet that from a financial POV it doesn't make any sense for GW to keep SG games into production given their current state (i.e. if they are not willing to put some serious marketing effort into them).

Slightly off topic but I think my previous plea for info was mislaid.  Does anyone know what the models are that Forgeworld are pushing currently?  Are they the aircraft models?  Or should I go an order some stuff!  :)

ForgeWorld are currently working on new Epic scale aircraft, including the Thunderhawk Gunship & Transporter, the Arvus lighter, and probably a few other pieces besides (As-yet unseen).

Next year will see Daemon Engines made for 40k, and I wouldn't be surprised to see new Daemon Engine models made for Epic at the same time (As long as Chaos is released by that time; FW have a policy of not producing Epic models for unsupported ranges).

Nearly all those extra costs would still apply if 40k or Fantasy miniatures were produced in their place.  Ok, if GW's production capacity was stretched, then maybe making the extra ranges becomes an issue, but seeing as they've opened all this fancy new plant and sales volumes are going down...well, put it this way, if Feral Orks made it out I think Chaos should too.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree about that fact. Still, even if GW's capacity is not stretched, managing the same (or higher) amount of revenues with less ranges and less minis to produce has been good for them. Until now.

Of course, the market is not completely elastic, so prices cannot be raised forever. And diversification could certainly help sooner or later...

Just one difference. FB and 40k sells. Epic doesn't as well as they.

And why they released feral orks? Well howabout this: Swordwind was produced when SG had more support. If they hadn't released feral orks it would have looked even worse as PR than it's now. Now with no new supplements released they can eventually just say "epic doesn't sell enough" and pull the plug from the life support system before chaos gets released. No expansion having been released with army not having released now.

Because they're already selling as much as they can of the "other thing that sells" - i.e. demand is what is governing sales volumes, not production capacity.  If people were falling over each other getting into stores to get their hands on 40k Marines and production couldn't keep up, then ok get those machines that are making Epic stuff to make Marines instead.  But no way is that what is happening.

If Epic literally didn't sell then they'd stop making it.  Clearly it does shift some units.

It sells just enough to keep it in sales for a while. However not anywhere near to expand it anymore...

It's just matter of time before they pull the plug on SG for good. It's not like SG sales are going to continue steady with lack of support.

But if they don't release new models are you going to keep buying same models indefinetly?

How many ork armies you are planning to buy anyway?

With GW's falling sales how long you think they are going to keep goodwill's support on SG rather than using those resources in an attempt to fix sales on main games?
