Quote (netepic @ 03 2003 July,03:11) | Well, let me know what you guys think, I could always put in a good word with Jervis... | Geez- I asked if anyone had contacts to try and squeeze some prizes, and you have the King contact in your back pocket!!!
Re EA organisation. I can see where you are going with this, and if it results in JJ making prizes available, then yes its worth it, but not really otherwise. Personally, I like EA but others have their own opinions. I dont see that we should push people down particular roads for a painting competition if there are no tangible benefits.
For example, a 2nd Ed player who has got his superdetailed Landraider detachment of 3 vehicles wouldnt be able to submit them without going to the trouble of painting up a 4th vehicle (which he needs under EA org) which outside the painting comp he won't use. This seems rather pointless and annoying.
I understand that in many cases the differences are negligable or non-existant, but pushing EA (much as I like it) isnt an objective of the painting comp and this may even put people in the position where they would rather not participate. This would thus reduce the # of entires, which is th real objective of the comp.
So no, it wont be EA specific orgs unless there is a Prize Benefit from GW, or if people say here that they are happy to move to EA orgs rather than those of any Edition.
Over to you guys to tell me what you want

Quote (netepic @ 02 2003 July,22:09) | Technical Issues:
I have some solutions for the technical issues, if I can get Chris's permission then I will create an album called the 'EpiComms 2003 Golden Demon Competition' then with a nested album for each category, then I will change the permissions for those categories so that anyone can upload a picture, but cannot change or alter any other images.
Sorry for joining this thread too late, but what do you guys think? | Sounds good- but as we have been discussing here and in the "101 members" thread, we want people to be members to submit and not have to be members in order to vote (if as you say you can prevent blatant cheating).
We will also need some sort of guards to ensure that people dont accidentally (or otherwise) upload A3 size/2 Mb files. If you can pass the relevant technical specs (max size, dimensions etc) to me I will add them to the file I am building with all the competition rules detailed.
We also need the vote count to be invisible too, so nobody can see how entires are going until they are announced. We can discuss this more closer to the date.

I can set it up so that people must be Gallery members to submit if that is what you mean.
We will also need some sort of guards to ensure that people dont accidentally (or otherwise) upload A3 size/2 Mb files. If you can pass the relevant technical specs (max size, dimensions etc) to me I will add them to the file I am building with all the competition rules detailed. |
Already in place

. The gallery will automatically create thumbnails of any image given to it, then create a 640 x 480 viewable version. The original will remain on the server but cannot be viewed by the public unless I change the settings for the competition album.
We also need the vote count to be invisible too, so nobody can see how entires are going until they are announced. We can discuss this more closer to the date.
That has already been implemented in the code, very easy to do.

Quote (CyberShadow @ 04 2003 July,23:22) | I guess that we are really waiting for Tas to step forward. Tas, what do you need? And how can we get this going as quickly as possible?
I would guess that the first thing would be to get the rules written down and concrete, then create the various threads/topics and gallery/web space required. Then, we need to sort out prizes, etc.
I think that we should open the competition here first. If we start shouting about a competition that no-one has entered, people will just ignore it. | OK- if there are no further change requests to what has already been discussed here, then they shall be the rules and setup for the comp.
I guess the few days delay has really been to determine the technical requirements, and to see if we can get some sponsors for prizes (still in progress).
I will consiolidate the rules, and PM them to you so they can be laid out in a seperate page at this site. You can then add a section of how to upoad entires to the galleries. Once that has been done we can start to advertise. As I see it, it is a project for THIS forum, and when I advertise the comp, it will be to direct people to the webpage here.
How about we establsih a date for making it all go "live" with the forum threads and stickies, and rules published. Say, next Saturday (12 July). That gives us time to get the various aspects in hand.
That OK with everyone here? Let me know the best way of getting the info to you. Please feel free to email/PM/ICQ me offline to discuss the finer points.
Very excited to be a part of this! Thanks for your assistance in making it possible
