Well, let me know what you guys think, I could always put in a good word with Jervis...

Geez- I asked if anyone had contacts to try and squeeze some prizes, and you have the King contact in your back pocket!!! :oo

Re EA organisation.  I can see where you are going with this, and if it results in JJ making prizes available, then yes its worth it, but not really otherwise.  Personally, I like EA but others have their own opinions.  I dont see that we should push people down particular roads for a painting competition if there are no tangible benefits.

For example, a 2nd Ed player who has got his superdetailed Landraider detachment of 3 vehicles wouldnt be able to submit them without going to the trouble of painting up a 4th vehicle (which he needs under EA org) which outside the painting comp he won't use.  This seems rather pointless and annoying.

I understand that in many cases the differences are negligable or non-existant, but pushing EA (much as I like it) isnt an objective of the painting comp and this may even put people in the position where they would rather not participate.  This would thus reduce the # of entires, which is th real objective of the comp.

So no, it wont be EA specific orgs unless there is a Prize Benefit from GW, or if people say here that they are happy to move to EA orgs rather than those of any Edition.

Over to you guys to tell me what you want

Technical Issues:

I have some solutions for the technical issues, if I can get Chris's permission then I will create an album called the 'EpiComms 2003 Golden Demon Competition' then with a nested album for each category, then I will change the permissions for those categories so that anyone can upload a picture, but cannot change or alter any other images.

Sorry for joining this thread too late, but what do you guys think?

Sounds good- but as we have been discussing here and in the "101 members" thread, we want people to be members to submit and not have to be members in order to vote (if as you say you can prevent blatant cheating).

We will also need some sort of guards to ensure that people dont accidentally (or otherwise) upload A3 size/2 Mb files. If you can pass the relevant technical specs (max size, dimensions etc) to me I will add them to the file I am building with all the competition rules detailed.

We also need the vote count to be invisible too, so nobody can see how entires are going until they are announced.  We can discuss this more closer to the date.

I can set it up so that people must be Gallery members to submit if that is what you mean.

Already in place ;). The gallery will automatically create thumbnails of any image given to it, then create a 640 x 480 viewable version. The original will remain on the server but cannot be viewed by the public unless I change the settings for the competition album.

We also need the vote count to be invisible too, so nobody can see how entires are going until they are announced.  We can discuss this more closer to the date.

That has already been implemented in the code, very easy to do.

Actually, I meant had to be a registered member of the EpiComms Forum to enter our Competition.

The rest sounds great- you are right on top of it all alright :D

It is my job to be   , I am a webmaster by profession :).

I can easily import the member names into the Gallery so that only registered EpiComms members may upload into the Gallery.

The list is already on the Members section of the forum which I can easily download and then import into our gallerys user accounts database giving either a generic password, or a random password which would be emailed out to each user individually.

Of course the second option only applies with people who have logged there email address. Otherwise I would have to send them an EpiComms message.

Wouldn't it be easier to state that anyone can add pictures to the gallery, but only those pictures that are linked to a post in the EpiCompetition thread on the boards are considered to be an official entry?
(If we want only members to enter.)
That way, we could have the web space and gallery as the De'Aynes Gallery is already organised, and also a single thread for each category showing the pictures, and people could view it however they liked.

If we want only members here to vote, that may be a little more complex without using the EpiComms polls function.

Yeah, mentioning it to Jervis would be a great idea I think, as well as lots of plugs for it on the Epic:A boards.... :)

PS: I have already emailed Jervis a link to this thread to get his opinion on it. Still, I dont have his ear in the way that some on these boards do...  :(

Dont worry mate - The entire Fanatic team seem to have "forgotten" me since I was ill & handed the site over.

I've E-mailed them (both to the general team and individually) a number of times on a number of topics without any form of response ?:{ ?

At least there are still a few people here who can get straight to the top & voice our plans! :D

Tuff,
Perhaps when you are at Games Day you could politely find Jervis and remind him who you are. If you are being super mean and want him to permanently remember who you are, you should tattoo your E-mail address on his arm :D

Evil I know, but also funny!! :p ?:p

Cheers,
Chris.

Having been nosey and looked through certain folders on the De'Aynes... I wont disagree with you there Tom.....  :p

But then - we want Jervis to continue to continue to write games and not have to be institutionalised just yet, so maybe save the costumes for that "Meeting Gav Thorpe" moment instead.........  :-:

Lol, that is true  :p . We are not the most tame of people, but I just feel that life is slipping away and it is too easy to get stuck in a routine. So now I live each day as if it is my last.

(I had M.E for two years so had a simular experience to you Paul, Docs not understanding, couldn't find the problem, hospitol stays etc. Now I am just making up for lost time.)

So back on topic. Has there been a final decision or a design drawn up, how are we going to progress with this. Or am I on the wrong thread again, I am confused  :oo . Help me out here guys  :{ .

I guess that we are really waiting for Tas to step forward. Tas, what do you need? And how can we get this going as quickly as possible?

I would guess that the first thing would be to get the rules written down and concrete, then create the various threads/topics and gallery/web space required. Then, we need to sort out prizes, etc.

I think that we should open the competition here first. If we start shouting about a competition that no-one has entered, people will just ignore it.

OK- if there are no further change requests to what has already been discussed here, then they shall be the rules and setup for the comp.

I guess the few days delay has really been to determine the technical requirements, and to see if we can get some sponsors for prizes (still in progress).

I will consiolidate the rules, and PM them to you so they can be laid out in a seperate page at this site.  You can then add a section of how to upoad entires to the galleries.  Once that has been done we can start to advertise.  As I see it, it is a project for THIS forum, and when I advertise the comp, it will be to direct people to the webpage here.

How about we establsih a date for making it all go "live" with the forum threads and stickies, and rules published.  Say, next Saturday (12 July).  That gives us time to get the various aspects in hand.

That OK with everyone here?  Let me know the best way of getting the info to you.  Please feel free to email/PM/ICQ me offline to discuss the finer points.

Very excited to be a part of this! :;): Thanks for your assistance in making it possible
