Space Rats/Hrudd works for me !  :D  And I agree witht M/S - this =][=, SoB, quasi-religious stuff is a turn off for me too !  Deamons are just aliens to me !  And Xavi, no matter what size an SM/IG (etc.) unit is, it is a target for WMDS.  SM Rgts are just organizational "tools".  If a Rgt is 1000 strong and the mission requires 15,000 troops, you send 15 Rgts ... the size of the base unit has no bearing on being a target.  Normally Battle Groups, Task Forces are made up of different units anyway.  So whether you land a Legion of 15,000 or Rgt of 1000 ... it's always a target ...

Yup, but each SM chapter is supposed to be strong enough to do the mission by themselves, and in most cases using a PORTION of their total strength. This is what I have a problem with. I do not eat the "1k marines overpowered 20 million defenders" argument. They are tough, oh yes, but they are not THAT tough. The whole concept of the SM is quite faulty IMO because of this operational organization. Basically, I see each company of a SM as a regiment, so a chapter Wshould be a whole division. And then you would have quite some power. As it stands, the numbers simply do not support this. Each marine should eat a pair of bloodthirsters for breakfast if those numbers were to be accurate. And they simply don't.

Health and sixes,

Xavi

So your point is SM units should have standard 3-4 Rgts in a Div., and 2-4 Divs to a Corps.  And Yes, G/W's fluff is also again at fault, if that is the case ...  ???

Indeed ... But SM1 TO&Es only take it to Regimental level. ? You could easily deploy 3 Rgts, if you fought a really big game !

Three main things -

1. Two words: Genestealer Cults. 'Nuff said.

2. The entire dumb thing about the Machine God actually being a C'Tan! Drop it.

3. I would certainly not gone as far down the 'technology is a lost art' path as GW have done. It is a nice idea, but to state that Gothic torpedoes are loaded by hand with string is stretching things a bit too far. This kind of thing irritates me.

Personally I like the old quasi-religious stuff, gothic does it for me (In fact my BA's are still vampiric  )
I do think Chapters are too small, and a universe of that size I'm sure could support a lot more 'ordinary' alien types, the loss of technical know-how is definitely weird (especially with the Squats to show you how :D ) The Machine-God = C-Tan is a joke

I quite agree.

Especially with No.2- what a load of tosh!

Well pretty much just a repetition of what the rest of you have said :D

1: Less rigid ideas of the stagnation in Imperial weapons technology/organization etc. (I hate guys who go: "No! You cant have *** on a *** because ***) Shesh, it's a big universe... Have a bit of imagination...

2: Slightly more realistically sized Marine Legions -100.000 sounds about right.

3: Get the whole Starchild/Illuminati thing back. At least it gives the impression that there's some sort of evolving storyline in the 40k universe as Xavi pointed out.

4: Make Orks a bit cartoony again. Back then they were fun to play. Now they're just a bunch of savage brutes with weapons which doesn't work hald the time... (Ok they were that back then too... but cartoony in addition to that... :p )

Tau & Necrons... Why? (*ducks for cover* :p )

Cheers! :)

I've kind of wondered this also. How many races do we need? Skaven in epic might be cool, though.

I pretty much agree with everything else that has been said. One thing that does bother me sometimes is the Imperium's rampant xenophobia.

- I'd also remove or change a lot of the overtly Christian references (Inquisition, sisterhoods of nuns, etc.) that the 40k background could work well without.
- The bad guys, chaos, would be more space alien than demon.

I quite like the way that the Eclesiarchy is yet another power-hungry influential body within Imperium- its full of checks and balances because the Space arines, Imperial Guard, Imperial Navy, Ecclesiarchy, Adeptus Mechanicus and Inquisition all distrust one another (and that's without going into the factionalism with each of the factions such as Inquisition).

The Dark Gothic ambience and political intrigue between supposedly loyal Imperial factions is one of the things that make the 40k setting stand out for me from being just another sci-fi setting.

And it's great fun taking an Inquisitorial/Sisters force packed with flamers and meltas and chipping in with "Purge the Heretic" at regular intervals!!

Cheers

James

Sure, and what next? Emperor is in fact a really devious chaos god? ?:-:

Why not, he does fit the bill. Eater of souls that he is.  :;):
