Many good points here and I have dabbled in Napoleonics before witha ?friend who has a large collection of forces and found it quite fun. Compared to my more frequent ww2 and later gaming the difficulties in troop control and communication is challenging
Remember that the Napoleonic Wars were World War 0.5 in that it encompassed all of the 'civillised world' at the time (damned colonials dont count there) and there were major revolutions in strategy during the period. ?It was also the start of proper combined arms ops with Naval raids etc being staged.
Yes the history is very interesting and in of itself is a major area of study
L4's point about it not being perosnal is very important too- While countrymen of the protagonists feel somewhat involved (look at how much the English and French still love eachother!) there is not residual perosnal involvment or loss.
There are many, many other wars of equal interest. ?I have always found the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 intriguing - the first use of priomitive machien guns (the Mitralleuse sp?), revolutionary rifles, and two very different tactical methods. ?French colonial wars, 7 years war, are also very interesting. ?But unless you can get a group who are ALL interetsed in a period AND can get the figs you want then it wont be a major focus.
I quite like WW1 too, but my attempts at gaming it have all too often been just like the Black Adder episode whgere Field Marshall Haig dustpans the troops off his terrain as the vast casualties mount. ?All too realistic in its simulation too.
Ive had lots of fun playing colonial games on the North-West Frontier and in Zululand too!
ciao!

Slaughterloo is 28mm. It is produced by Alternative Armies. Their website is not the greatest but see sitemap.
Check FLINTLOQUE/SLAUGHTERLOO GAMES + SCENARIOS and and the army links below it.

I remember that Adder episode well ... funny, ironic and tragic ... And all my IG Rgts are numbered after units I served in ... so I still try not to "waste" them !

Jimbo,
I did not know, thanks for pointing it out. I will have to trip on over and explore some more of the Non-Epic stuff at your site.
Thanks

Interesting, this did not seem to be the case based on the number of figures I see sold on ebay, nor by the tables at the local cons I attended in the last few year. Maybe my observations are flawed.
Yes, FoW has added to the WWII level, I can see that on ebay, but not in the Historical nor Game conventions.
I also believe this might be a case of an American point of view vs. a European. ACW is popular amoung some clubs here, but is it a major era for the whole world of War Games? ? I do not know, I am asking. ? ?
dafrca | Hi!
Actually according to some retailers conversation on some board (cant remember which), ACW is quite popular in britian, dont ask be why, I was really surprised by this.
I'm really "out of it" as far as retail contacts. Used to be very into such info and kept tabs on it.
I also recollect that sometimes what is seen at conventions and such may not accurately reflect what is being sold. These events usually attract more committed fans and leaves out a whole host of buying consumers that dont ever go to such events.
I'm going to look around and see what I can dig up. You have piqued my interest.

In any case, the Historical Market does seem to be dominated by the ones we have spoken about. WWII, Napies, ACW, all seem to be big on the net.

Hi!
I remember one magazine for retailers that gave sales figures. I'm straining to remember the darn name. It was pretty good giving relative sales increases and decreases from month to month.
Now you REALLY have me curious.

OK, for fun, I went to TMP and looked at the Polls section (well the first page) and there was one poll about "What era do you play in 25/28mm?"
#1 19th Century #2 WWII #3 Medieval
ACW nor Nappie show up in the top five.
Interesting...
This is fun.
