Quote (primarch @ 05 2005 June,16:01) | I would really like to see more fan driven version take off. Its nice to have netepic around, but epic would be more robust if say a Netepic A or even a Netepic 40k existed. The amount of ideas and "cross-pollination" would drive each project for a long time. | I agree with this up to a point, and would be more than happy to actually lead the charge on this. The only thing that I am worried about is diluting the Epic population. While EpicA still features as part of the SG catalogue, and while the Vault is functioning as a rally point, then I think that a project like this could harm the game. However, if EpicA is ever totally dropped, the web site scrapped and SG disbanded (and two years ago I would not have believed that I would even be talking about this), then I would love to get this off the ground.
I guess that I will keep an eye on progress. I really like EpicA as a game, and it is my favourite version. I have not been tempted to consider this kind of action before.

E:A is the best version IMO, and we will use 85-90% of it, plus some stuff from SM1-2, E40K, etc. ! Good show, Boyz !!

I would rather that this AMTL list is a bit like the 3 lists in the main rulebook- these 3 generic lists for IG/SM/Orks have been followed by more restrictive thematic lists such as Siegemasters, White Scars, KoS/Snakebitez etc. | I actually see the AM, TL, and Knights as sub-lists. They are all basically like the gargant-focused OGBM, but with Titans, Ordinati or Knights as the focus and IG (Tech Guard) as support. Sure, the tech guard may have slightly different units and organization, but the basics are still going to be very similar to IG.

Hi!
CS, I would agree its a watch and wait game at this point. Its always easier to pick up the ball when GW drops it than try to give it a go while they still hold sway.
I recognize there is always that player desire for "officiality" as defined by being "GW sponsored or produced". Heck I would mind if they finally made a fully supported version of epic. But given their current course that not happening. So, I'd keep an eye out, perhaps contact people you favor to form the core "team". Some forethought and planification would not hurt for when the day comes.

I think that applies here for sure.

Hi!
But Makisim, whose talking about a schism?
Fan based efforts need not "compete" with the parent company, just "do its own thing." Besides the only real schism as such was during Epic 40k....
Also if it were for efforts like yours and other dedicated fans then Epic would have never "died" (in a commerical sense) in the first place. The sad truth is that it is GW which will kill or resuscitate epic. Our efforts, however Herculean cannot forestall the inevitable if GW has decreed it as such.
Thats why I recommend "doing your own thing." I hate having peoples work being taken for granted when the parent company, in realistic terms, could care less. Note, Jervis caring is not the same. He's just a peon in the great corporate structure which is GW. I sometimes feel extremely sorry for him. It must hurt seeing GW poo-poo over his efforts to make the game system prosper. But, without GW's muscle (resources, real support and wide raning distribution), Epic will not go beyond what it current is. A hobby for a few rabid fans....
...although its cool being a rabid fan.....

I agree with Maksim on this one. While EA has passing GW support, then I will stick with it. No matter how much an alternative system is designed to fit alongside the 'official' version, there will still be perceived competition between them.
If, at any time, EA goes under in the same way that E40K did (no visable support, online mention, store support or published material) then I would CONTINUE EpicA, rather than create an alternative. I just think that it would be easier to continue the community and development 'out of house' rather than trying to sell people on a 'new' version.

I certainly don't see any problem with supporting netepic and E:A. Like everyone else I hope for long-term GW support of E:A, but the writing is on the wall. I do feel bad for Jervis. It must be an awful feeling to put so much effort into something that appears to be doomed. Although I would love to see tons of new minis, that just ain't gonna happen. I would be happy with E:A rules for everything (or almost everything) that has be released so far.
We know that eventually GW will stop producing E:A, but until that happens, I feel it's important that we support it as much as possible, not for the sake of GW's profit margin, but rather in the hope, as slim as it may be, that maybe, just maybe, the powers that be at GW will get their heads out of their collective asses and realize that Epic is something worthy of full support. Or, at the least maybe they will realize that they could make tons of money from us rabid fanz!
