I think the only Swordwind models that are painted are the ones Tuff did, and he won't give us an advanced preview! Please!

Cheers

Chris

Afraid not mate.
I intend to follow their protocol to the letter (for a while at least  }:) )-  I want to keep them happy if I want to have any chance of some preview pieces of the IG command for my own forces

OK, On one of the other threads we have started to discuss rules systems we like to borrow from. I thought it was interesting enough to have it's own thread. So, Dirtside...

I like Dirtside quite a bit. It is not perfect, but does have a lot going for it.

Has anyone tried Fist Full of TOWs?

Off the top of my head ... SM1, SM2, E40K ... we've taken most of our previously SM1 based rules and took a little from SM2 & E40K ...  :)

I actually bought FFT quite recently. It is a nice system, and got a thumbs up just from the authors notes of borrowing c&c rules from 40K and firepower from the original Epic! I was not so sure about the game initially, but I like it more and more now.

I have played a few modern 1/285th scale battles using FFT. It was fun. One good laugh was half way through a game, I was geting my ars handed to me, we realized I was calculating my numbers wrong and thus was loosing more then I should. So we chacked it up to too many of my troops were "yeller".

Fun set of rules.

One rule system I looked at for ideas was a modern set called Challenger 2000. It was a complex game.

Another rules system I have tried some things from was Command Decision.

I am also very interested in CD. But, there is version four coming out soon (it is in the playtest stage) and I am waiting for that. I keep bugging the 6mm Yahoo Group for updates!  :D

I also have Mein Panzer, Panzer War and Panzer Marsch, as well as Modern Spearhead (if we are talking about moderm-ish rules sets).

I have tried many of the above, and wrote many of the additional rules and army lists for FFT that are on the website.  I also really like GDW's "Over the Top" which is like a WW1 CD, and have many other but havent played many of them except Spearhead whichi thought was very good too.

There was a great supplement for CD called Barbarossa/25 which i always wanted to do a epic campaign based on....

The reason I spoke about Modern Rules is, even though Epic is SciFi, many of the things we want to "borrow" have to do with issues many of the Modern games attempt to address. Things like Troop moral and training levels.

Now, how they attempt to deal with those issues differs of course, but I think there is a level of complexity (or could be) in a modern game caused by the tech etc. that makes them closer to Epic then say a fanticy or DBM type game.

Hi!

Mostly borrow from DSII, with choice item from all versions of epic.

Now one question I have about borrowing, do you start with a trial period before it becomes a house rule?

Some things could cause unbalanced reactions as you try to fit them into another game. I think about how one game of DS went crazy as we tried to add in one persons house rules for Ogres. Man was it messed up. :(

So how do you ensure you are not creating a worse problem then you are trying to resolve when you "borrow"?

We dont necessarily have the 'trial rule/official rule' divide.

If we think of an interesting change, or a rule that we could borrow, then we play it. If it turns out that it doesnt work, then we drop it (even part way through a game occassionally).

Hi!

Yes. We usually introduce a rule or two, try them out and then decide if they stay or get dumped.

One game I ended up dropping out of, the "leader" kept adding house rules and each week things got worse and worse. He was starting to do house rules to fix things that became broken because of other house rules he had added in.

I believe it is important to have that trial period so that the full effect of a change can be understood.

Hi!

Agreed. Additions should be a few at a time to guage impact. Only after much testing should they become permanent.
