Hi!

I sometimes find that people prefer the "myths" to the "reality" of certain American "heroic" battles.

Sometimes reality is even MORE heroic.

Hi Dafrca,

Dafrca: Just to correct a few minor points. The 1960 version with John Wayne was not a Disney Film. It was a MGM Film.

Thanks, Dafrca!

You're right, of course. I was thinking of the old Disney "Davy Crockett" film.

"The Alamo" was MGM.

Dafrca: The new one, 2004 version, is a Touchtone picture. Thus the funny part here is the 2004 one is a Disney-owned version.

Weirder things have happened.

------

One of the scenes that irked me was the obligatory "Letters Home from Vietnam" scene that every war film seems to have to replicate these days to show the human face of the rank-and-file soldier. I liked the orginal HBO special, but get tired of everyone and their brother copying the gambit in the movies.

------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Thanks for the insight Maksim, I thought I heard that somewhere then I saw the Tom Cruise trailer and thought I must have been mistaken.

Thanks, Maksim!

I'll head over to the SG site later to see what's changed.

*** How long are you going to leave it until the next update? ***

I want to get my gaming group to Playtest it but as we only play Epic 2-3 times a month it is difficult to spend time on any playtest if you kow that it is going to change soon.

Recently I have been losing with my Orks. Last time against a Khornate/Nurgle L&TD army. Hoping that we can playtest both Nids & AMTL soon.

Cheers,
James.

Hi Jimbo,

You're welcome.

Hi James,

I don't know when the next release will be... probably about two weeks... Jervis seems pretty happy how well this project is coming along.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

yes WOTW will be cool, but sadly its a modern version though, not the Well's Victorian SciFi.

I was disappointed when I found out that Tom Cruise's WOTW wasn't going to be Victorian Era. I just hope Hollywood doesn't screw up everything by relying too much on special effects and skimping on the plot. By the way, some scenes with Tom Cruise were filmed in an old factory not too far from where I work here in Connecticut.

I find this is true about more then just Battles. Many people just love their myths regardless of truth.

Hi Dafrca,

Dafrca: Do most of you have mixed stuff?

Yes. My stuff is very mixed but almost entirely one scale: 6mm.

In 6mm, I have:
- Ancients
- Fantasy
- Napoleonics
- W.W.I Armies
- W.W.I Air Forces
- W.W.II Armies
- W.W.II Air Forces
- Modern Armies
- Modern Air Forces
- Modern Littoral Navies
- Godzilla Giant Monsters
- Car Wars
- Science Fiction of many makes and models...
- Terrain sets for almost every army I own... (Many terrain sets to double or even triple duty... )

In 10mm, I have:
- Star Wars: Battle of Hoth set...

In 15-20mm, I have:
- Some odd Micro Machines figures that came with all the Star Wars MM vehicles I have collected...
(I can't give them up since it's too cool to have a Yoda who is 8mm tall!)

In 25mm, I have:
- Napoleonic Russian army (Want to sell it!)...
- A few odd sci-fi Necromunda-type skirmisher figures that were a gift of a close friend...
(They were fun to work on... )

Starships:
- BFG
- Some odd Micro Machines starships from several series...
- Star Frontiers
- Some unidentified odd stuff...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Maksim,

That is a pretty impressive list! :p

*** Got a picture of the whole collection? ***?

*** What is the manufacturer of the littoral navies? ***

I have one serious gamer question for you:
- I generally find the GHQ stuff to be the best quality in terms of 6mm WWII and modern, CinC being right behind.

- I once owned a modern US Mechanized company from GHQ. It had lots of M2 Bradly Fighting Vehicles and M1A1s. Now the biggest disappointment was the constant strain on the barrels. Every one on my 25mm bushmasters looked like a limp noodle in time.
- Corrections in time broke some of those cannons or I can never get them to go back straight.

*** So how to you deal with this? ***

*** Is careful storage the key or is it just part of the trade off with 6mm? ***

Please let me know your experience with this.

Thanks!

Hi CC,

CC:

No, I don't. I guess I need to get my digital camera in service very soon...

- Well... your best bet is careful storage as you have surmised. If they are borken, your second best bet is to replace them with some barrels from other sources.

- I generally just live with my broken ones, but I take care of mine well enough that this is rare problem for me.

CC:
*** Is careful storage the key or is it just part of the trade off with 6mm? ***

Careful storage is the best available solution.

If you are using microarmor converted to sci-fi use then don't worry about barrel replacements, the BFG weapons sprues work great!

If you want to keep the modern (actual) look of the barrels then replacements are more difficult to come by.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi CC,

CC:
*** What is the manufacturer of the littoral navies? ***

I have several 6mm navies:
- 6mm or 1/285 Vietnam "Brown navy"...
- 6mm or 1/285 Arab/Israeli conflict navies...
- 6mm sci-fi navies...

------

The sources are the following for 6mm or 1/285 Vietnam "Brown navy"... :

- GHQ
- In-service
- Matchbox toy conversions...
- Other toy conversions...
- Lots of odd toys, trinkets and funny little boats...

------

The sources are the following for 6mm or 1/285 Arab/Israeli conflict navies:

- Almost everything I have is custom-built and has been for the small-scale combatants meaning primarily missile boats...
- I have only modelled a few larger craft such as corvettes, frigates and destroyers...
- Anything over the size of a destroyer is generally larger than the level of naval warfare I enjoy.
- I prefer the small scale stuff with miniatures and use counter and chit games if I want to be an admiral with a "bigger picture."

- Matchbox toy conversions...
- Other toy conversions...
- Lots of odd toys, trinkets and funny little boats...

- The occasional 1/500 or 1/600 for the few larger types I have such as destroyers...

- Skytrex is supposed to have a 1/600 Arab/Israeli conflict naval series that I haven't seen in person and that they don't advertize. I plan to make an inquiry someday, but this hasn't been a high-priority project for me.

------

The sources are the following for 6mm sci-fi navies...:

- GZG
- Old Crow
- Some minis of unidentified manufacture (flea market specials!) ...

- Matchbox toy conversions...
- Other toy conversions...
- Lots of odd toys, trinkets and funny little boats...

------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
