Ahhh... found my own answer...

AT-AR..just a modified version of the AT-ST... created apparently by the Marvel comic book series. Don't know what the point of that was... but do with it what you will.

My 2cents,
Iblisdrax.

Hi Iblisdrax, Tas and Gang,

Tas: WRT Hoth - What about the Rebel Ion Cannon? ?It seemed a Surface to Orbit weapon only, but it would be in important objective.

I just forgot to mention it. I already have it modelled! :D

Tas: And dont forget the Tauntauns - Star Wars equiv of Rough Riders!!!

Never! We all need those smelly beasts that sound like hamsters on steroids! :p

Tas: Did you know that Irregular do some 6mm Hoth stuff? ?I'm sure you probably do

Yes, I have the riders and the characters set. Most of the other minis bear next to zero-resemblance to anything Star Wars.

Iblisdrax: Nothing I have mentions the AT-PT at Hoth; as a matter of fact I believe that it was phased out of the Imperial arsenal some time before...

I've saw it first in the "Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Trilogy; The Ultimate Guide To the Incredible Locations of Episodes IV, V, and VI" book. I've also seen it in other post-movie books detailing the trilogy.

Iblisdrax: - In the West End Games (WEG) supplement "Han Solo and the Corporate Sector" it is mentioned as a relation to the Espo Walker, but that most of them had been retired.

I don't own that book although I'd like to.

Iblisdrax: - In the WEG supplement "Dark Force Rising" it is mentioned that they were phased out in favour of the AT-ST.

I ALSO don't own that book although I'd ALSO like to! :D

Iblisdrax: - I believe that there is also mention of them being phased out in the Star Wars Dictionary... but I cannot seem to find my copy at the moment (rrr).

Another book I don't own...
? ?
Iblisdrax: *** What is an AT-AR? ?***

All-Terrain-Advanced Raider...

AT-AR is a more advanced version of the AT-ST.

Iblisdrax: - The Rebels had some E-webs also, captured from the Imperials...

I heard that, but apparently there were very few Rebel E-webs. E-webs apparently had some real drawbacks such as  long preparation and charging time.

Iblisdrax: - As well as some repeating blasters. Although it is mentioned that none of the light arms did any good against Imperial armor.

Stormtrooper armor?

Everything seems to core Stormtrooper armor!

I was curious what sort of larger small arms the Rebels used...

*** Maybe BlasTech T-21s? ***

Iblisdrax: - Don't forget the Imperial Probe Droids, and as Tas said, the Tauntauns and the mighty KDY -150 Defender Planetary Ion Cannon.

I won't. Thanks for the reminder! :D

Taun-tauns: Done!
(Came with the AMT/ERTL Battle of Hoth Action Scene)

Ion Cannon: Done!
(Micro Machines toy)

Probot: Done!
(Micro Machines toy)

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Tas,

*** Any chance you could describe/scan the AT-AT lander??? ***

The AT-AT Landing Barge illustrated in "Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Trilogy; The Ultimate Guide To the Incredible Locations of Episodes IV, V, and VI" looks like:

A giant eraser with appropriate SW armor. It is illustrated as a model that carries x4 AT-AT and x2 AT-ST as well as a some ion cannons for defence.

The caption with it mentions that smaller capital ships like Star Destroyers have a smaller model that only carries x1 AT-AT.

That's a little confusing since it appears that there were x8 AT-ATs at the Battle of Hoth. Five made it to the battlefield and three fell down ice crevasses on the way to Echo Base.

I have no idea how many AT-STs were at the Battle of Hoth.

By text cannon, an AT-AT can carry infantry and speeder bikes OR AT-STs...

The novel of ESB (and even the screenplay) aren't very clear either...

Who knows?

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I thought they were dropped from orbit using ablative heat shields to protect them... don't remember where I read that. I'll have to look it up.

One of the problems with the goal of locating "full" TO&Es for the battle of Hoth is that it was not done as a complete "battle" even in the movie. Then you have many sources that have no common data. Some books done for the games (WotC or WEG for example) might or might not have consulted other sources like the people who wrote the novels or the other companies who bought licenses to do books like the cut aways.

Unlike something like WWII where there is at least a realistic expectation of data, there is none here. So in the end, I say make the forces how you want and just drive for the "overwhelmed" feeling in the movie.

That is just my .02

Thanks M/Sim!

*** So the lander is BIGGER than Star Destroyer?? Gulp! ***

I can only recall seeing x1 AT-ST in the Hoth battle, but I totally agree with Dafrca - the ORBAT wont be there in full and was developed to 'look cool' on the screen, not provide tactical sence. However...

If we accept that there were x8 AT-ATs at the battle, then thats two landers worth - x2 landers of x4 AT-ATs each yes? ?

With each lander carrying x2 AT-STs that's x4 AT-STs in total, given that the AT-ATs were packed with Snow Troopers...

If there were, say a pair of AT-STs in the main fight (we know there is at least one) then the other x2 are probably out on each flank or out on recon finding the main way ahead for the heavies.

At least that's what I'd do.... :D

Cheers!
Tas.

I'm still trying to get one of those M/M Probots for my collection! ?

Did you guys see the shows on Discovery about the science of Star Wars? ?

I saw some of it! Cool!

And did any of you catch the show there called "Alien Planet" the week before? ?

Missed it! :(

In the end, that's what I will do, but for now, I'm trying to learn as much as I can... :D

Hi Tas,

*** So the lander is BIGGER than Star Destroyer?? Gulp! ***

No, the x4 AT-AT Landing Barge is too bulky for a normal SD small craft bay so they are deployed on ships larger than SDs...

According to the fluff, a smaller x1 AT-AT landing barge is used by SDs...

The fluff is a little confusing...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Thats what happens when it written afterwards to support already produced movies...

Thanks for the clarification on the Lander.  That would suggest that somewhere behind the outer SD screen and pickets would be some sort of large Imperial Assault ship packed with these AT-AT landers and filled with stormtroopers.  Now THATs a target for all those X-Wings to go for!

The Hoth AT-ATs probably came off the Executor Super Star Destroyer...

Regular Star Destoyers deploy landing barges that fit one AT-AT each...

There probably is no "large Imperial Assault ship"... unfortunately!

Tas: Now THAT's a target for all those X-Wings to go for!

What a vision though!

Hi Faron and Gang,

I recently found a copy of a study of the Iran-Iraq airwar called:

"The Role of Airpower in the Iran-Iraq War"

By a Major Ronald E. Berquist...

*** Has anyone read this book? ***

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

Diana is all tuckered out today so I might have to wait until tomorrow (Sunday) to get out to see Episode III.

- In the mean time, I have been working on the v5.40 E-A Tyanid Playtest list. You can see some of the results of my efforts at the official E-A Tyranid playtest forum here:

http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/fo ... ORUM_ID=23

- I've added Exocrines to the new (as of yet unreleased) v5.40 E-A 'Nid list and have separated Synapse Nodes into two species.

- Dactylis or Tomato Chukkas as MarkCo likes to call them are gone for good. So are some of the older 'Nid Bio-vehicles such as Malefactors...

- I'm working on GT objectives and much much more.

- One of the particularly time-intensive tasks has been to write the background blurbs into each Tyranid army unit's data card. I've been using Andy Chamber's background from Epic Hive War and the last 28mm 40k Tyranid Codex. I have yet to see the new one yet, but I have a copy being sent to me as a freebie. All the creative writing is a lot of fun. :)

- I also want to add that Jervis is a great guy to work with. I'm more and more impressed with him and his good spirit as I correspond with him more and more. He was very happy with the v5.35 version of the list and I'm very close to finishing v5.40.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
