Thanks Maksim, still awaiting my GMR ebay purchase to arrive. I'll probably get the second book in due couse.

Very interested in what you are doing for Rampage scenery.

Are you going for flash stuff to use in other gaming? ?

I am tending toward the more durable stuff and recently saw some good stuff made from blocks of wood. Very effective skyscrapers I thought - and most importantly, compatible with kids playing too!

I also found cheap (ie free!) paper models here:

http://www.papertoys.com

Which has let me start building my hometown of Syndey for a stomping!

"New Avalon Hill game: Monsters Menace America!" - Ohhh... I haven't heard of this one...

The Hoth project also sounds very cool, - can't wait for the pics!

Tas.

Hi!

I'm unfamiliar with that setting. What is it?

Hi!
DS-II is a good rule system to adapt to almost any genre. I made some modifications for the 40k universe, although I haven't tried them much.
Primarch.

I heard of some guys using it for Victorian Sci-Fi (War of the Worlds, Space 1889 etc). ?

For example, they renamed:

High Energy Lasers (HELs) - "Electric Guns"

Light missiles became "Smuts AntiVehicular Rockets"

And others...

The modular vehicle rules they used to create:

Armoured Landships!

A great and very versatile set of rules!

Hi!

Yup, I did similar adjustments. Titans are modular vehicles and created some extra weapons categories like "warp projectors" and "flame weapons".

Very robust system. :)

The one thing DSII has that is a good thing, but can be a problem for younger less experianced players is: Without Combined arms and tactics you get handed you butt every time.

DSII is very unforgiving of people who do not understand tactics.

Hi Primarch,

Primarch: I'm unfamiliar with that setting. What is it?

GMR stands for Giant Monster Rampage, a game of Godzilla-like giant monster combat.

Hi Tas,

Tas: Are you going for flash stuff to use in other gaming? ?

Yes. I was planning to use my 6mm terrain for the game.

Blocks are nice though although the flash stuff is much more pretty to look at. With children though, blocks are the way to go!

Tas: The Hoth project also sounds very cool, - can't wait for the pics!

I've been wanting to do it for some time. I'm pretty excited about it (and have been for some time as the New Years Resolution shows!) and just found a crucial book to help in the planning: "Star Wars Locations - The Original Trilogy."

It has a map of the entire Hoth battlefield and the only illustration of an AT-AT landing barge I've ever seen! :)

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Dafrca,

Dafrca: DSII is very unforgiving of people who do not understand tactics.

I quite agree.

As a side note, I got by Dollar Tree today and picked you up four Commanche helicopters and a variety of light vehicles.

Most of the GI Joe diecast vehciles seemed closer to 20mm than 15mm so I passed on those (brought a ruler this time).

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Glad you got the package Maksim! Thank you again. ?

Happy to send you reinforcements for Hoth! :D

And yes DSII is high on the "reality factor", however we thought the infantry rules were a little weak. But overall not a bad system...

Hi Guys,

WHAT MAKES A GAME GREAT...

I think there are two primary factors which make a game great:

1. IMAGINATION FACTOR:
- If a game allows me to immerse myself in its background and really enjoy it. In other words, it ignites my imagination... This is a very important factor...

2. FUN FACTOR:
- If I have a good time sharing a game with friends then it's a hit in my book. The length of play is a factor, but I'd rather spend four hours playing one fun game than play four "not-fun" games in the same period.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Weaponry at Hoth?

Hi Guys,

*** Are there any Star Wars gurus out there that know the specific details of the weaponry used at Hoth in Star Wars: Episode IV? ***

I just got ahold of a new book entitled:

"Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Trilogy; The Ultimate Guide To the Incredible Locations of Episodes IV, V, and VI"

It has some information I'd never heard before:

------

Imperial Blizzard Force Vehicles:

- AT-AT
- AT-ST
- AT-AR
- AT-PT

*** I have never read before that AT-ARs and AT-PTs were at the Battle of Hoth! ***

*** Can anyone confirm these vehicles from other sources? ***

------

Imperial Snow Troopers use:

- BlasTech E-11 Blaster Rifles
- BlasTech D-21 Heavy Blaster Rifles
- BlasTech T-21 Light Repeating Blasters
- BlasTech E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster
- Aratech 74-Z Military Speeder Bikes

------

Rebel Echo Base Vehicles:

- Modified Incom T-47 ?Snow Speeder?
- Golan Arms DF.9/B Laser Tower
- Atgar 1.4 FD P-Tower laser batteries

*** Did I miss any important Rebel vehicles? ***

------

Rebel Echo Base Troopers:

- BlasTech A280 Long Blaster Rifle
- BlasTech E-11 ?Freedom One? Blaster Rifles

*** What make were the heavy blasters used at Hoth shown in the trenches? T-21s? ***

*** What did the Rebels use for heavy weaponry? Repeating blasters? ***

------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Maksim - got GMR on ebay for $2!
Too bad the postage was $11.... ?:p

WRT Hoth - What about the Rebel Ion Cannon? ?
It seemed a Surface to Orbit weapon only, but it would be in important objective.

And don't forget the Tauntauns!
- Star Wars equiv of Rough Riders!!!

Did you know that Irregular do some 6mm Hoth stuff? ?
I'm sure you probably do!

Tas.

*** Any chance you could describe/scan the AT-AT lander??? ***

Nothing I have mentions the AT-PT at Hoth; as a matter of fact I believe that it was phased out of the Imperial arsenal some time before...

- In the West End Games (WEG) supplement "Han Solo and the Corporate Sector" it is mentioned as a relation to the Espo Walker, but that most of them had been retired. ?

- In the WEG supplement "Dark Force Rising" it is mentioned that they were phased out in favour of the AT-ST. ?

- I believe that there is also mention of them being phased out in the Star Wars Dictionary... but I cannot seem to find my copy at the moment (rrr).
? ?
*** What is an AT-AR? ?***

- The Rebels had some E-webs also, captured from the Imperials...

- As well as some repeating blasters. Although it is mentioned that none of the light arms did any good against Imperial armor.

- Don't forget the Imperial Probe Droids, and as Tas said, the Tauntauns and the mighty KDY -150 Defender Planetary Ion Cannon.

My 2cents,
Iblisdrax.
