Sorry to hear of your troubles, Maksim. You are, of course, in a much better position than us to decide what to do, but for what it is worth here is what I think...

Looking at the letter:

"Maksim,
It's very annoying to have you constantly inventorying my gaming stuff. I can't figure out why, when everyone else is gaming or socializing, you would be in my garage looking through half painted miniatures or
helping yourself to my private collection of games. Lisa and I do like to host events but we do like some privacy too. It's annoying to both of us. Last month you were even rude enough to inquire about what was
behind a closed door. If I had really wanted to show you, the tour would have gone there.
This month you definitely crossed the line. When I say no to a request to use our household computer, I mean it. You shouldn't ask a second time, challenge my decision, and I shouldn't have to have a "policy" or need to explain myself. It's my property and my events aren't hosted to facilitate shopping on eBay.
In light of this Lisa and I feel that we shouldn't invite you back.
Kris."

They are annoyed and offended and ??feel? they should not invite you back. Not a good situation, but they could have said ?we have decided we will not invite you back?, which is more final?in other words you do have a glimmer of hope, if you can help change how they ?feel? towards you. Added to this hope is the fact that you already have a relationship of a couple of years already.

I would not advise trying to explain your actions point by point as you did in your first attempt ? it comes across as ?I know you have these nuances of social etiquette, but they are crazy, because I only did this?.

They feel like not inviting you because of what you did last time and what they fear you will do next time - so at least make an attempt to assure them that you can change!

Maybe something like:

Dear Kris,

I understand that I have upset and offended you and Lisa by overstepping your bounds of hospitality. This was certainly not my intention and I sincerely apologise for having done so. I very much hope we may be able to put my social blundering/misunderstanding behind us and move forward? Now knowing what you have told me I would of course endeavour to curb my curiosity and keep a much more circumspect demeanor at future events.

(Plus elements of your and Jimbo's attempt, including acceptance of whatever their decision may be, appreciation of company/friendship etc.)

Your good mate,
Maksim.

P.S.
Please accept this bottle of Champers as a token of my apology.

You may feel that you haven't done anything terrible, but the important thing is that they are offended... its not a right or wrong thing. Here's an analogy... my local casino has a 'No Jeans' policy. In practice what this means is that I have to change out of my neat looking $200 designer Jeans while some guy in a bush shirt and stubbies (very short ugly shorts) walks straight in. ?I have argued with them about how crazy that is, but in the end I just do it and go in cos its their place and one of many things in life that don't make sense and is not really worth worrying about.

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of going with the ultra-simple response that Jimbo devised. After all, he IS "almost always right!" :D

Diana is a little irked that she was also ejected from the Tactics-0 group without so much as a note. And this was after Lisa also hugged Diana goodbye and told her that she'd be welcome back anytime. She and I think that Lisa probably isn't in the same camp as Kris except for that whole marriage thing... ?:)

At any rate, Diana would love some words of support if you guys can conjure some up for her that I can forward.

She heard how much the supportive words from friends here helped me.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

To punish a person for the 'perceived' indescretions of another is just not on and particularly unfair on Diana especially as she seems to get on very well with Lisa.

In fact it could be that Lisa is also being unfairly treated, having been denied a friend. I do wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye.

Hi!

Well, after reading all this I feel I "New York moment" coming on...

...I like L-4's approach... say nothing. I would not even apologize because YOU DID NOTHING WRONG. If he's having a bad day, week, or month and is going through some stress that you are unaware of THEN that is no excuse to take it out on you.

You are a nice likeable guy Maksim. I have talked to you on messenger many times. With all that, I probably know you LESS than this fellow, but even given that, I would NEVER miscontrue any word or action of yours as bothersome.

You mention "Midwestern things." I won't go into this since I don't want to offend any Midwesterners. But I lived there once and, needless to say, I found them somewhat "sensitive." Of course that isn't saying much coming from a New Yorker (We have the sensibility of stone sometimes... :;): )

Point is, while it may arouse your curiosity to know the "why" I don't think it's worth the effort.

Perhaps we all have different definitions of friends, but I don't think REAL friends get mad over trivialities and, mind you, I'm not the most "chummy" person around... :;):

You have other game groups which you are content with, so this is no loss.

I make it a point to forget people who don't want me around, to coin one of my most favorite phrases...

"You can't please everyone all the time, so don't try..."

Live by that and you'll live a remarkably carefree existence... :;):

Primarch.

Primarch and I agree a lot! :;): ?

But seriously, I deal with lots of people all day in my job. And many I would not have anything to do with if I didn't have to deal with them at work.

And I can truely say this in all seriousness... there are some semi-humanoids in town that the only reason I have not put them in a wheel chair for the rest of their worthless lives is I don't want to go to court and jail, really.

But I have to be an adult and not lower myself to their level of existence.

Thanks Justiniel, Primarch and L-4 (Ralph),

Diana and I both appreciate the words of support.

L-4: ...there are some semi-humanoids in town...

I don't think Kris is a sub-humanoid. He is just acting like one lately.

I have a hard time condemning a friend I've had for several years. It's still shocking to think that it came to this. I'm still sort of hoping that he'll come around even if I don't want to return. I hate burning bridges (or having them burnt out from under me).

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Tas,

Mate you MUST check out an awesome game called MONSTER ISLAND by Firefly Games. ?Its a great Godzilla and moster game (with an expansion ESCAPE FROM MONSTER ISLAND). ?Everything you could want from Mothra to Mech-Godzilla!
I highly recommend it. ?A lot ?

I love that game. They make it in my town here. The designers are LOCAL!

I own a copy.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I suspect this person may have some stressors that are unknown to you. So my suggestion stands. Say nothing, back off and leave it alone.

If in time he comes around, good. If not, no loss.

Hi Tas,

Tas: Hey M/Sim - how you going with this project?

You helped?

How cool! :D

Are you a playtester for Firefly games?

I mostly have some buildings set up to finish for my uber-city and I have some monsters I have been slowly basing for the game.

I'm torn between using Monster Island, Giant Monster Rampage and The Creature That Ate Sheboygan rulesets. MI has the best charm, but GMR has some cooler rule details and more complicated and sophisticated monster generations. As to TCTAS, it is a classic and there's a lot to say for that!

I have been eying the classic Ral Partha Dinosaurs greedily... :p

I recently got a Rodan and an Anguirus.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I see my cunning tactical deception plan has worked brilliantly and got you back onto a more enjoyable train of thought - Victory!

Well, I'm kind of a playtester and this was the first time anyhow. I looked over the draft product, did some research and made some suggestions for changes. That was for the New York Supplement that allows the various beasties to stomp NYC. ?

Another supplement came out earlier this year for Tokyo - the most kaiju stomped city in the world! :D

Based on the testing I have just done I am thinking of writing one for Sydney. Sure they havent been any actual Godzilla movies in Sydney but we aren't far from Muroroa Atoll and have the only Nuclear reactor for about 10,000kms...

I haven't heard of the other rule sets. I like NMI for its simplicity (I play with the kids) but would like to see the other rules too (Why is it that all gamers are natural rule set collectors?). ?

Are there rules that can be transported to MI?

I have bought my kids some classic 50s/60s Godzilla movies and got got the 1933 version of King Kong as well (Actually as an aside I'm going through a real B grade retro movie phase right now - War of the Worlds, Day of the Triffids, The Blob, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms....). ?We watch them on Sat mornings and relax. ?The gaming we do during the week since we banned TV on weekdays - amazing how much more time we spend together playing cards, dominos and MI!

I also just yesterday won on E-bay the classic "Rampaging Godzilla 6 Action Figure Set" so we can use Authentic Kaiju in the games! ?It has Gamera and MechaGodzilla in addition to three different Godzillas from different eras... no Rodan or Anguirus though and, of course, I need a Ghidora!

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws....IT&rd=1

And where do they stomp? ?Across the table covered in SM-2 era card buildings of course! :D

The other thing I ike about MI is its versatility - I recently got the "Invasion of MI" supplement and have all sorts of plans for Dalek invasions and Tripod attacks - War of the Worlds style!

Looking forward to hearing more of your stomping adventures!

Tas. :D

M/Sim- just been doing some research;

* Was "The Creature That Ate Sheboygan" an old SPI boardgame from 1979? *

- I found some good reviews on GMR which do indeed sound very cool. ?

* Did you knwo there was a supplement called "Giant Monster Rampage II: World War?" *?

- If you are interested, there is a review of it here:

http://www.gamingreport.com/modules....&id=746

- I really like the sound of GMR but MI gives us the basics, which we need (Reilly is 4 after all!) If I can get a cheap copy I'll grab it for sure!

Cheers,
Tas. :D

Hi Tas,

I see my cunning tactical deception plan has worked brilliantly and got you back onto a more enjoyable train of thought - Victory!

Thanks! I needed that! ?:)

Based on the testing I have just done I am thinking of writing one for Sydney. Sure they havent been any actual Godzilla movies in Sydney but we aren't far from Muroroa Atoll and have the only Nuclear reactor for about 10,000kms...

Yes, I've long wanted to make an OGRE map for Sacramento ?since one already exists for San Francisco. I'd also love to do one for Jerusalem and Tel Aviv... maybe Cairo, Amman and Damascus while I'm at it! ?:;):

(Why is it that all gamers are natural rule set collectors?)

I don't know, but about 99.9% of us are rules collectors. I collect rules to expand the possibilities of use for my miniatures.

Are there rules from GMR that can be transported to MI?

Yes, but they are different systems in many ways. MI is much simpler and has better more professional support. GMR is much more home-grown and the owner/writer is much more accessible.

I love the illustrations from GMR. The monsters have a very charming look to them.

At 6mm_minis, I have a folder full of links to 6mm Godzilla games. You should check it out:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/6mm_Miniatures/

If I had to choose, I'd probably pick MI over GMR.

The E-group for GMR is called UGMR and is at this URL:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/ugmr/

The writer of GMR is also the owner of the E-group and is a relatively friendly guy. I like him at any rate. Don't bring up MI there though... he can get a little sore about that.

The gaming we do during the week since we banned TV on weekdays - amazing how much more time we spend together playing cards, dominos and MI!

My TV spends most of its' time collecting dust and my life is much richer for it. I read more, model more, game more and, in general, enjoy life more. They don't call it the "boob" tube for nothing... ?:p

I also just yesterday won on E-bay the classic "Rampaging Godzilla 6 Action Figure Set" so we can use Authentic Kaiju in the games!

Cool buy! Mazel Tov!

I am using miniatures and toys from roughly 2" to 4" in height.

And where do they stomp? ?Across the table covered in SM-2 era card buildings of course! ?

Of course they do! We all love those SM-2 buildings!

I recently got the "Invasion of MI" supplement and have all sorts of plans for Dalek invasions and Tripod attacks - War of the Worlds style!

Cool!

You bought the PDF for "Invasion of MI?"

I've been meaning to buy that sooner or later.

I've also long been a fan of "War of the Worlds" and reread the novel last year.

* Was "The Creature That Ate Sheboygan" an old SPI boardgame from 1979? *

Yes. You can download it for free these days though.

* Did you knwo there was a supplement called "Giant Monster Rampage II: World War?" *

Yes. I own it.

------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
