When I ran the store there was one player who was a sore loser and in a game versus IG (he was squats) his leviathan was stripped of shields and all that was left was a single shot at -1 modifier. It hit, all he needed was to NOT roll a one... guess what he rolled! He then took the mini and dashed it against the floor, only to then scurry to pick up the pieces...

That sounds about like my kind of luck. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure he wasn't me?  }:)  Although I would've probably just pulverised the dice with a sledgehammer or something...

And you forgot to mention the Vortex missile incident in Rogue Trader.

As for memorable battles.

In one battle I had a IG heavy weapons company positioned in good cover and with a good field of fire. They didn't hit ONCE during the entire game.

In another game I had a half-destroyed devastator platoon defending a building from a onrushing Slasha gargant armed witha snapper. A single stand hit, the missile bypassed power fields (they flickered), hit ammo, started a fire which escalated out of control and the gargant proceeded to blow up in the end phase.

In a game of Rogue Trader I tried to crush an Eldar dreanought with my Land Raider. The dread received some minor damage while the Land Raider went out of control for the rest of the game and promptly proceeded to mow down half of my army.

AND in nearly every game I've played I have failed nearly all saving throws for which I need a whopping '2' to pass. My superheavies have it tough.  :(

Hi!

Doh! :p  Forgot about that Rogue trader game. My first and last 40k tourney experience.

I'm kind of ashamed of that though. I exploited the rules to the max with a 1000 point vortex missile that could evaporate the whole opponents half of the table.

I not only one, but the missile destroyed the tourney as well..... :;):

Speaking of Car Wars...

Years ago I played that scenario where one side takes the big motorcycle gang (me) and my opponent the townspeople. Similar to Jimbo's story we spent many hours writing out dozens of motorcycle data sheets, police, civilians etc.

Finally we were set to go, and my motorcycle gang (including one van) roared into town - ?the van was in front leading the charge but it failed to smash the pole and chain that was stretched across the road. The rest of the motorcycle gang were all going far to fast to stop in time... :( ?My opponent couldn't stop laughing.

Reminds me of many of the games of Car Wars I played.

Great story

Another great game I had was Star Trek Full Thrust using two Romulan TOS Warbirds.

I flew up to my opponent, blew him out of the sky and then I flew straight into an asteroid.

IIRC we had moving asteroids and one flew direct into my flight path...

It was very much like the scene in Empire Strikes Back with the TIE Fighters in the asteroid fields.

Hmm...lets see:

* OGRE: Getting the OGRE to overrun the enemy CP having lost all weapons and with only one tread point left

* AT: Gutting an enemy Titan in CC and ripping out its plasma core - only for it to rupture and take your last Titan with it....

* SM2: landing a whole SM Assault Coy via THakw behind enemy lines to CC an IG Arty Coy, which in turn had a Coy of RR as close protection - the ensuing melee wiped out EVERYTHING except one lone RR stand.

* BB:  A last turn rush for the end zone (with scores tied) where absolutely everything goes right in a pass-sprint-handoff-dodge-run-throw-catch-dodge-sprint-go for it-go for it play.  Touchdown...I win!

* SHulk: Havign one last Marine standing at an intersection watching hordes of stealers approach from 3 different directions.  A far too often occurance...

*25mmStarGrunt:  An all day 8 player game (Club Open day) playing down a 24 x 8ft table.  An armoured assault with 24 tanks pouring up the middle into a company defence with aerial and arty support.  Players ran Pls and has a coy commander who decided who got the priority for supporting fire and reserve allocation.  A very interesting game that ended up as a draw but was brilliant to play

*DBA:  Finally getting my magnificent newly painted Imperial Roman battle line into position and charging the hated Gemanic barbarian enemy, only to have my General, leading the attack, roll snake eyes and die- thus losing the first game of my new army in a single die roll!  Caesar was not pleased...

*Lock and Load Bordgame:  Playing VC, I battle harden a Hero who then runs ahead of all the other VC and NVA troops, through US Arty, MG and Huey fire, through the Claymores and jumps into the US positon and bayonets the US Commander to death!  The rest of the US and ARVN Forces fail the subsequent morale chack and rout...

There are many others, but they are the ones that come immediately to mind! :D

I do remember an early game of SM1 where I took out a CI with 3 Eldar Falcon Mk.1s ... :D  I also remember a pair of Tempests whacking my Squat Cyclops in one turn ... :(

Hi!

Thats the main reason we gave those units templates under netepic. No more "one shot and your dead" with such units as the CI or leviathan. They are supposed to be mobile fortresses after all.

Sigh, the one shot shows were fun, though.....
Space Hulk IS a great provider of good moments - My Black Templars once engaged the Dark Eldar - those Warp Beasts ARE nasty in corridors! My Emperor's Champion was shredded before he could raise his power sword; although a colleague of his mmore than made up for it, wiping warriors out by the squad with a bolter in close combat :p They must've exchanged armour before the battle...

Hi!

I loved using lightning clawed SM in sapce hulk, man they were brutal.

Or course the original game without add ons made playing SM a real challenge!

Space Hulk was my first G/W game.  Got it at the hobby shop outside Ft.Benning, GA, in '88, IIRC.  Remember my buddy and I on the floor of my apartment playing and having a good time.  It was kind of fun, two professional Infantry officers, laughing and yelling about killing plastic aliens !    A couple years before that we on the DMZ in the ROK and laughing and yelling ... and we thought the N. Koreans were aliens !

I had Space Hulk v.1 a long time ago, but wasn't that impressed and HATED the early plastic Terminators.

One night a few months ago I stumbled on an unopened, mint copy of 2nd edition for buy-it now $60 I think. Well, I had never seen them sell for less $100 so I snagged it. For never seeing this version before I was more impressed, especially with the new Terminators, but even still, I don't see what all the type is about.

The moron selling it didn't put the 'box' in a box so it got a little beat up too. I am really picky about my boxes! ?
