This is worrying, I actually agree with some of what Gandalf says!  :D  It would be great to get a number of the Titans in a game, rather than just a couple. I would also REALLY like to see ATIII as a campaign game, allowing custom fit weapons and upgrades, like the original.

1) I love the Baran Siegemaster models

2) Titans with experience and a campaign system would be excellent :).

Let us imagine for a minute Epic A was released like this:

- Takes place in anotehr place (not a recycled battlefield from 4 years ago). . .

- Army lists for Chaos, Eldar, and Tyranids are released with the Space Marines, Imperial Guard, and Orks, and armies like the Baran Siegemasters and Feral Orks are a project to be released in the future. More important are the Tau and Necrons!

- New Warhound doesn't exist. Instead they recycle Forge-World's Warhound. Warlord is sold with extra bitz. Titans can be customized. WHO ******* CARES ABOUT WYSIWYG if you spend 5 min talking about your forces before the game begins??

- Much of the Epic line is excellent, so use as many of those vehicles as you can and use your resources coming with NEW vehicles, no rehashed designs what probably didn't need to be changed in the first place, like the Eldar Scorpion.

- I thought we had to fight tooth and nail for characters to be brught into the game and I still feel they are too generic. I'd like to see 40k characters represented on the battlefield. If they can't make an impression in a battalion-sized game, then dammit what are they worth to an Empire made up of 1000s of planets????? Not only that, it is nice to know that if you are going to spend time customizing or painting up a model, that it is going to leave an impression on the battlefield.

As far as I am concerned, Epic has lost a lot of flavor, and I look at games that don't use Titans or don't have something like, like GROPOS, and I ask myself, take away the 40k universe and what do you have? A buch of mini vehicles and infantry. Big deal. . .

With so many other games out, like Flames of War, Mech Warrior, and so on, Epic A has a lot of competition. I don't think EpicA captures the imagination the earlier ones did even if A has a better system because players don't have anything to dwell over while painting or collecting. It's bland!

But I argued all these points so early on and lost many of them. Oh well.

Hi!

Well, given fanatic's downsizing and their stocks having a less than stellar showing, I think you can forget seeing any such "revolution" for epic from GW for the foreseeable future....

Yeah, I think Epic A will slip from obscurity until GW runs out of ideas and then releases a new box set for Epic 4.0. It's really the only way Epic is going to make a comeback. It's got to be in the stores and I think box sets are easier to market than individual rulebooks and blisters.

I took the liberty of mentioning this subject in a mail to Jervis. This is the reply I got.

We've no plans to do a new edition of AT at the moment. Because of this, if you guys would like to submit a modified version of AT1, I'd be very happy to consider publishing it online, first as an article in Fanatic Online Magazine and then as a set of 'free rules' on the Epic website.

Jervis

Basically the initiative is ours...
The scary part IMO is that it really shows how precious little resources Fanatic has left.
I think this is a great opportunity to re-vitalize Adeptus Titanicus 1. -Probably the only one we get for having the rules publically available too.

Anyway this is at least food for thought.

Cheers!  :)

Hi!

Hey, thats pretty nifty.

Wonder wy they dont post the download for the original rules in the meantime.

Well, those that are "epic A" competent rules-wise, might want to take him up on his offer.

Actually, I think that if we put our heads together about this, we could come up with a really good game for this. Perhaps we should use the ideas here to come up with a simple basis for the game, and then comment and expand on it in a new thread.

Perhaps we should start by listing the things that we liked and did not like about AT and ATII.

Like
Variable weapon fits, including hard points
Campaign system, with skills and equipment upgrades
Scavenging equipment from kills

I cant think about the dislikes so much, but I will get back later. When we have a good list of positives and negatives, we should start a new thread with some very simple rules. I think that the first rules set should be extremely stripped down, as adding bits is easier than deciding what to get rid of.

The main thing I can say is what I said before, the things that bring the most character to the game are the titans. You don't have to go crazy with the customizing, but somewhere between the number of weapons mounts in Epic 40k and AT1 is fine. I think SM2/TL isn't necessary.

Also like the random hit generators in Epic 40k, along with the critical hits. Very easy and detailed enough to make things interesting. I do like the random hit generators for each specific design as I like different things happening when an Eldar Phantom gets hit versus a Gargant.

I really like the Epic 40k rules for War Engines. I think peeps who haven't played Epic 40k should check out the rulebooks for it. Using alternating moves, it would be a pretty quick chess match.

I suspect they may not have them in a format they can use.

They may have even "lost" the original files.

I was surprised to hear my local IR saying they will be stocking EpicA next year.

They also stock FOW, which has a similar marketing look to it - a main rule book and formation sized blisters.  I don't think a boxed game set is so necessary with this approach.
A rule book and two infantry boxes and you can start playing!

Primarch; Well.. several people have the PDFs on file I'm sure...
If these were spellchecked for errors (not that there are any glaring ones that I can think of), I would bet Jervis would be happy to have them hosted on the SG site; as a fan updated and improved version would take a while to be ready.

I would send Jervis a mail myself, asking if he would do this, but I no longer have the files on my PC; perhaps another willing Epicoms member would? ???

I agree with WM about it showing the sad state of affairs that SG is in as well... :(

Cheers, ~G

OK, I'm confused - that email pretty much contradicts the last reply I had from Jervis wrt AT3 and Air War, as shown below. Admittedly, that was from a month ago, but as far as I was aware the situation hadnae changed.

I still plan to do both games. Our new set-up will actually make it easier to publish such games, as long as we get time to design and develop them. However, it's pretty much all hands to the pumps dealing with the new website for the next 2-3 months, so don't expect anything too soon.

Hi!

I have long since pass my entire epic rulebook collection to PDF format, since I like the easy access from my computer.

The only problem is that some of these files are quite large due to the high scanning resolution.

I'm not surprised that some people might start seeing Epic A in local GW stores now, after the so called re-organization, since whatever sock they have needs to be "moved". Its after the excess gets sold off that we may perhaps experience shortages.
