You guys are incredible. How do you manage that incredible amount of precision? I get wavy lines as soon as I attempt even the most basic blacklining techinque....

Have you tried a _really_ thin felt-tip pen, 0.3mm or so? I did my first blacklining with one of those. See here for pics, they're the two Custodian Titan pics.

I agree. Fine pens are great for blacklining. Just make sure the paint is completely dry before you start using it or you'll clog up and destroy your pen.
Also you might want to do a few tests first as the ink in some pens tends to go glossy or get an "oily" shine to it. Also you could check if the ink dries waterproof if you plan to paint over it.

Cheers! :)

Done with the main Landspeeder model. The crew were given a coating of Gloss Varnish to preserve the sheen I wanted their armor to have.

However - most of the thing was painted over a year ago, and it cannot go unnoticed. It still looks good over a distance, but close up it looks best with both eyes closed...

Next in the pipeline: Emperor's Champion, followed by the Seraphim Superior.

Nice job Tuff (Storm is currently working on getting a copy of Photoshop too  :blues: ) -it really is amazing what you can do with photoediting software, can't wait til I get mine!

Could I use some of the Eldar pics on De'Aynes btw, now there are up on the Mercenary Brush?
Cheers, ~G

Continued work on my giant alien mushrooms(!) and F/W W/M Ork Village (great for Epic!).  Also did a little "horse trading" on Bartertown.  Had some 25mm fantasy "Conan-type" barbarian/Vikings, I painted back in the mid-70's, when I was a cadet.  They had been for sale at the local shop since summer. Put them on B-town yesterday and within a few minutes had a buyer.  I'm trading 28 barbarians for 28 40K CSM !  I'll be selling them to Doug, if he wants them, as he is also getting my extra Bo5A stuff !  Good deal all around, and I break even on the barbarians ! :D

I've heard about using technical pens and I'll sooner or later use them. However the problem does not lie in just blacklining; I'm simply unable to reach the levels of cleanliness displayed in these photos.

As a way of example: take a look at the Dominator's prow in the first page of the Warmaster's fleet thread on the dry dock subforum. My first attempt fell much, much shorter than that. My bandings are all "wavy" with some of the little "bumps" in the banding lost; there's no way in hell I can paint the four "stripes" on the imperial eagle wings with white and black between them, and the eagle's little "eye" is lost. Also, I had to paint the three little "depressions" on the prow basically by hand-repainting them in black after the white coat on the prow, with rather pathetic results; by way of comparison, those showed in the pic are clearly identical to the actual texture on the mini. And it's not just a matter of excessive paint density obscuring the details either; I always dilute the colors. It's just that I can't reach that precision.

When using a brush it is improtant that the paint is very thin when painting detail. Something like the consistency of milk and the paint will flow more freely from the brush. It also has the advantage that the paint settles easier in low areas -ideal when blacklining!
Try resting your wrists on the table or your knee when you paint this should help to keep your hands steady. (I have a bad habit of using the knee which unfortunately results in a rather unhealthy posture. When painting for a couple of hours I end up with a sore back and neck...not to mention a few paint spills on my knees... :(  )
Anyway I hope this might help a bit.

Cheers! :)

Continuing work on the Chaos stuff. Tonight I've painted up 2 Firelords and a squadron of Doomwings for my Tzeentch forces. Also I decided that the Lord of Battles would be more stable when mounted on some sort of a base. I thought it'd be appropriate to mount him on a pile of skulls so I've tried to sculpt some from greenstuff. They''re a bit large for Epic skulls... I suppose they're from Ogryns or Trolls ...Khorne isn't picky  :;):
I'll post a few piccies tomorrow when the light is better.

Cheers! :)

Got Bo5A and Swordwind book today! Nice! ?
I'm keeping the ruins, hill, rules and dice.

Doug,
I e-mailed you! It is a nice set, but for $80, it should be!

I liked the pics of the new models in Swordwind. Hope to see the new Feral Ork models.
When are they coming out? If ever? ???

Got my Platformer sets that I ordered from Urban Mammoth yesterday.  Very nice sets, well thought out, but alot of assembly to do.  And Hideously expensive, especially shipping to here in the US.  I will shoot some pics when I get them done.

My 2cents,

Hi,

Managed to get about half of my BKC force done in the past few days and I'm pretty happy with the way that they've turned out. I'm planning on giving them their first proper outing next week, so I shall continue with the rest over the weekend.

Today however, I did a bit more work on my Orks. Cleaned up some details on the Boarboyz, finished the Gunzmob and did a lot to the Goff Stompamob (lots more checks!). I've also done a test Bad Moonz stompa which I'm still uncertain about. Will hopefully get all that done by Sunday night though and then get some pictures.

Cheers,
Freshmetal

EDIT: Bah! Was just blacklining that Bad Moonz Stompa and the pen leaked all over the thing and all over my hands! Grrr!

Typical - tried to undercoat some War Machine stuff (Caine, Nemo, Jouneyman Warcaster, Gun Mage Captain Adept and a Stormclad HEavy Warjack) and my can of black undercoat ran out.

Just got to do another coat on the white of my Sword/Cobras, then the metallics, and they're done. The Falchions should be finished after that - they're being left due to having different fleet colours.
