OK, here are the "other children", as promised: I will adrees each in turn. Please note that, due to slightly varying distances at which they were taken, the pics, unlike the sculpts, are not in scale with each other, not even necessarily with regard to different parts of the same miniature. As a rule of thumb: If they are parts of one miniature and the background looks very similar, chances are they were part of the same shot and are in scale with each other.
I have numbered them 1 through 8. This is not the order in which I did them/started work on them, though by chance #8 is the latest.
I will say a few words to each in turn:
#1 This is supposed to be, when finished, an epic version of Deathwatch Brother Captain Artemis from Inquisitor. I am rather proud of the sword and the half rounded "shield", which he carries on one arm, in particular the skull on the latter.
#2 This will be a true three-dimensional genestealer, rather than the sorry "cardboard cutout" that is the epic version (which has the advantage, however, of being in one piece - not that that matters to me;-)). As you see, there is still a lot of work to do here, particularly on the lims and the head, of which so far only the plastic armature is done (the protruding part in front is for the tongue). This one too, is based on the Inquisitor Version, which IMHO is the by far sexiest Genestealer design I have seen so far, the head in particular looks mean (I think the new 40k one is not so great).
As a side note: #1 and#2 were originally intended for a small diorama, to enter the open category of the Epic painting competition 2004, but didn't get finished due to University work really kicking in that semester.
#3 An Eldar Ranger. My favourite piece of those. Which, ironically is why it took so long just to reach just that stage (which really is not much). I want to make sure this one looks really great. I am rather proud of that small triangle pendat on the chest, which took forever to make out of *really* small plastic strips - putty just didn't do it (unfortunately the pic is rather blurry, but ist was the best of about 10 tries). Also notice the small pouch on his right and the fact that the sword-hand is actually in proper (i.e. non-heroic !) scale with the rest.
#4 A Tau Water Caste Ambassador, again like #1-3 from Inquisitor. Not much done yet, just the main body and the lower part of the drone (which is not a normal gun drone btw). Hard to make out in the pic, but you might notice the Tau insignia on the necklace. in case you wonder why the color looks so strange: This is due to the lighting, the sculpt is not made from some other kind of putty. It is a regular Green Stuff-Milliput mix, the kind I generally use (Though I just ordered some brown stuff [wasn't able until recently, as I didn't have a cerdit card before], since I have heard a lot of positive comments on that).
And yes, at that time I was very much inspired by Inquisitor models ;-)
#5 This one is really old. My oldest unfinished sculpt, probably never to get finished either. I mainly put it up to illustrate how much inferior Green Stuff is to a Green Stuff-Milliput mix, in my opinion. You can do much more hard sculpting on the latter, which nets better definition and smoothness. This miniature was supposed to be an Eldar Fire Dragon Special Character with a nice fire axe etc. But as I said it is unlikely to ever recieve further attention.
#6 Now we get to the *really* old stuff. So old that it is even *finished* and also *painted* (you may gasp in horror now ;-)). It's a Harlequin Shadow Seer. I did it just before leaving home for my 9 months of military service, which kinda put a halt to any sculpting/painting etc. for that time. I am very satisfied with how the gems and the face mirror turned out. They are actually blended, which is hard to see in the pics (except fo the face). Same for the blade. On the other hand, just looking at that massive area of gold almost makes me go blind now...
#7 This is (obviously, I hope) a Techpriest, done at the same time as the Harlequin.
The mechadendrites are made of wire, with grooves carefully cut in them. The claw is made from plastic and Green Stuff and the bolter is from some Imperial mini (I don't do that anymore, but back then I sometimes used GW bits).# The paint job is nothing special. It was supposed to look rusty, grimy and dirty, and well, it does.
#8 [again the color is due to light, not putty]. The lower body of a Necron destroyer/hevy destroyer. You can't really see that in the image, but most of it is plastic, not putty, which means that, in light of recent experiences (see last post ^^), I had better be careful when accelerating curing... You might notice (I certainly hope you do ;-)) that the body shape (if not all details) is quite symmetrical. This was achieved by glueing the two halves that would later make the basic armature together at one edge and then cutting/sanding/filing them both in one go.
Well, that's it. Apart from these pieces there really isn't much more. A few old pieces that are not worth displaying and some rudimentary WIP pieces (really just (parts of) the armatures of some IG (based on Inquisitor again)).
Now, if you'll excuse me, I will just drop into bed for a nice 4 hours of sleep;-) Hopefully I will be able to start the promised sculpting thread by tomorrow (no, wait, that's "today" actually...;-)) evening.
Cheers,
Drasannar
