Hi,

This could be included in the Construction Workshop thing that has been proposed, but as the Supa-Stompas are available in the new releases, I'll ask seperately.

From my old ebay Ork win, I have a mass of 14 Stompas (+2 Stompa backs), which I plan to paint into groups of 4-5. Since I have so many, I don't plan on buying the new boxset and therefore I need to build/convert some Supa-stompas. However, I need ideas or tips on what I could do to the stompas to make them supa! (The Stompas are E40k-era models BTW, except three which are SM2-era.)

I've been looking through my rather limited 40k bitz box and found a few pieces that could be added (Ork Warbike guns, bits from the Ork Warband sprue, etc), but need some inspiration from my fellow Orks. I've taken a look at Krooza's stompas/gargants for ideas, but would appreciate any more that people have.

Cheers,
Freshmetal

The second easiest way (ie after buying the Supastompa) would be to use an old Mekboy Gargant. But it looks like you want to use the Stomper models...hmmm... how about using a pair of looted Rhinos for larger feet? A couple of larger weapons from anything in epic or 40K; and a head, the least easy: scratchbuild one? Or use a larger gun turret (but which?) for a head.
Just a few thoughts. :)

I made my Mekboy Gargant starting from the back of an old SM era Stompa.
http://www.mustangsalling.dk/gargants2.htm
Basically I started at the top and worked my way downwards. To build up the body you can add just about anythning really. Small pieces of cardboard or Plasticard can be used for armour plates if you can't find anything else.
A good tip is to make a nice round body from a piece of Polystyrene. Just a rough shape of what you want the Gargant/Stompa to look like. Cover the stuff in PVA glue and voila: You've super-glue-proofed your polystyrene ball. It is then a relatively simple matter to glue all manner of weird bitz onto the body.

I hope this helps a bit.

Cheers! :)

Hi,

how about using a pair of looted Rhinos for larger feet?

When I read this first, I just kinda chuckled and dismissed it. But when I reread it, it got the squigs in my brain all excited. After a bit of rooting around in my bitz box and a few concept sketches, I replaced the Rhinos with SM2 Land Raiders (upturned) and I've spent the past hour or so producing what can only be described as an Ork Lord of Battle. :D :P

I removed a track from a Land Raider, cut down the second LR's side so that they would fit together as one three-tracked LR, turned them upside down and trimmed off the excess to allow a Stompa (with no feet) to sit in between the two outer tracks. :D Just have to remove the sponson guns and some detail on the bottom, fill the gaps with green stuff, and find some suitably huge guns to replace the stompa's weapons with.

I'm gonna keep working on it today, so hopefully I'll get some snaps of it by tomorrow. :) Wheee!

Cheers,
Freshmetal

The Italians would say 'da cosa nasce cosa', Freshmetal. I'm eager to see what my Rhino shoes have become in your interpretation, which sounds great! :D :D :D

Hi,

I always knew collecting Orks was really motivating. Get inspired to build a crazy contraption and you'll work on it for hours. :) So without further hesitation...(ahem)...

Introducing the all new, all spangly, all Orky... SUPASTOMPA! (AKA Ork of Battles)

Note: Very poor camera = fuzzy pics. I'll get better ones when I can borrow a better camera.

Front
Side
Back
Size Comparison

I'll post a link when I get some better pics and do a write-up on my website. I'm not sure if it's to everyone's taste, but I really like it now that it's complete. :) It's about as tall as a Warhound Titan, so it's quite formidible, without being gargant-size. The only thing I wish I could've done (if I had the bitz), would be to replace the head with something larger, but it's still ok as it is.

And below is a pic of the OoB leading the first four Goff Stompas that I also converted with bits and pieces from the 40k Ork sprues.

Grouped with four Goff Close Combat Stompas

I'm happy with the way they turned out and shall get them painted soon. I decided to make all of these Goffs, and therefore CC orientated. The next four or five will be really jazzy and "bling" to be Bad Moonz. I've also got five SM2 era stompas which will become Dethskullz.

Cheers,
Freshmetal

I converted a bunch of stompas some time back and I mostly used plastic arms from various GW kits. I also repositioned the arms and heads of the existing plastic Stompa body.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
