Nice stuff P. :;):
Like Jimbo I like to paint my metal parts fairly dark. However I often use washes to achieve the result. Thined down black with a bit of blue or brown added depending on the tone I want.
It is nice to see "realistic" fantasy figures for a change. Those oversized GW weapons can be a bit too much every now and then.
Who's the manufacturer of those minis? I'd love to try my hand on a few at some point.

Cheers!

:)

Well well, you are full of surprises Primarch :D

Very well done on these first efforts! They look very good.

Constructive criticism:
The wizard has a mold line on his hat - taking such details away with a file before you start painting saves some pain.

Where two textures meet (like skin and clothing/armour) you can paint a dark shadow line in dark brown (or blacklining - something I do a lot of) to help seperate and define the two textures. Sometimes this is easily achieved by leaving a dark base colour showing through at the join. Usually a combination of these two techniques works best (leaving basecoat showing at joins and tidying up with blacklining). I think you have achieved this look well in many places especially on the orc (edit: I was just looking at the first two pictures at this point!). If you look at the rear view of the wizard, an area that could benefit from this technique is the bracelet on his left arm.

Some of the armour on these pieces may benefit from an black ink/paint wash to define it and dull it a little, and as Jimbo says, drybrushing metals over balck is a good idea. If the metal is supposed to be bright then proceed in the same manner but then drybrush a silver colour over the top.

Anyway great stuff, I love the orc and cleric in particular.

Perhaps you should have started a new topic for these pages of pics Primarch??! ???

Nice job with all the minis though, well done, I'm impressed if its been years since you painted!

**GLOSS VARNISH is the work of the devil though..** :p

**********************

My Monday has been interesting- I've been down to Hertforshire Uni for another modelmaking interview- I'm very happy to say that I was unofficially accepted!! :D
I was really impressed with all the stuff going on and the workshops- this rather excellent full-scale 40k chainsword caught my eye though!!

Hi!

Jimbo, I was using a intermediate metal color (GW chainmail), a darker metallic for ink (GW's bolt gun metal home made ink) and highlights with mithril silver.

I will use you tip for future works, since I also like the darker metallic look that you and Warmaster favor.

This is the first time I have painted with all the "proper" techiniques involved. If you remember my IG army pictures, some of the horrid paint jobs there are mine, since I just did base coats with o shadowing or highlighting.

This excersize has given me the condifidence to redo all my old epic stuff with proper techiques. :)

Hi!

I thought that too stormseer, but I figured I give this volume a few more pages before a new volume is made. :)

I agree with the gloss varnish comment. But I couldnt get any matte varnish. But as I practice more I am slowly getting more and more paints, brushes and or course primers and matt varnish. :)
