Yeah, I agree with CanucksFan- no more categories are needed in my opinion...
But allow composite pictures please and (slightly) larger file sizes.

One thing about pictures.
Remember those that have to
a) download the pictures using a phone line b) small screen resolutions
oh and importantly
c) those who vote, people who may not want to wade through numerous photographs
If a miniature is well painted it should be able to stand on its own two feet.
One of the entries I saw looked really good with the single pic in its entry, but after the comp when I saw more pics I actually went off it... didn't think it was that well painted once I could see lots of pictures of the entry.

Yeah, I know what you're saying Jimbo... I use dialup however, and wouldn't mind at all downloading slightly larger files to see more details of a model.
A single image is far better than multiple pictures, but personally I would like it if composite photos were allowed.

I agree that using multiple images for the first round would be a mistake, but wouldn't using composite images solve this problem? Wasn't this done last year? I seem to remember seeing these types of images. Did it work well or not?
I guess the most important thing is that this competition will always be great with the high quality of the organizing people and artists involved, and that the actual rules are not as important.

reposting from the discussion about this before...
My view is that this is a competition and it has rules and also needs to be fair to all entrants.
Not everyone has the skill to create composite images, nor does everyone have the webspace to hold more images.
quote
after the competition you can post as many pictures as you like...
all please take note
this is a competition, it has rules, you abide by the rules or you don't enter
if you don't like the rules that's okay, but this is a painting competition, no one is forced to enter.
Last year we had a bundle of entries, by restricting everyone to just one photograph it will make judging easier, an excellently painted miniature should be able to win with just one picture, yes it would be nice to see more detail, but the entry should be able to stand alone.
The other thinking is that this is a not a detail competition, in other words it is not about whether you can paint the eyebrows on a epic miniature (though I know Tuff paints the individual hairs); it is whether you can paint a whole miniature well and it looks good as an epic miniature. This is why it is fair to only allow one picture per entry.
After the event feel free to post more pictures.
My entry won the Open Category last year

and I only suppplied one picture!!
More pictures became available on my website after the competition.
PLEASE SEE THE SMILES

end of quote
Also please note that the majority of winners from 2003 won without using composite or multiple images, as was the same in 2004.
Using composite or multiple images (and I am going to shout here) DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, IT WILL NOT INFLUENCE THE VOTERS IN THE WAY YOU THINK IT WILL, IT WON'T. Most people will take one look at the entries and there eye will choose a winner almost automatically or sub-conciously, adding extra images does not help this process, it actually hinders it.
You are more likely to lose with a "messy" photograph then a good one.
This is a painting competition, the best entries will always be able to win with a single image.
This is my opinion and I realise that others disagree with it.
