Hi!
IP and such issues have been an indirect hobby of mine becuase of what we do in netepic. Here are some things to keep in mind:
1. In the real world, "fair" is irrelevant. GW has more money than we do. If they find something objectionable and threaten us unless we remove it, we have little choice than to do so due to financial restraints.
2. Profit is irrelevant. You can violate IP even if no moeny has exchanged hands or profit made. So dont rely on the often quoted fallacy that "if you dont make profit its okay".
3. How similar a made master model is to GW's is irrelevant... see #1.
This still leaves a lot of leeway though, for example:
1. IG infantry, after all are human type figs, you could make a zillion different themed ones and not infringe IP.
2. Artillery pieces. Most GW stuff is WWI - WWII vehicle ripoffs. Model them closer to the actual WWI - WWII vehicles than GW ones and your safe.
3. As mentioned before "kits" represent a good "work around".
As my final word on the subject, if and when its decided to go that "extra step" and actually try to do this. I suggest it go to private e-mail, closed forum or other private forum and stay there, never again to be talked about in public and those that "benefit" from such endeavors will forever keep it to themselves.....

Hi!
To make this easy, if you want "in", e-mail me at:
primarch@caribe.net
At some point after christmas, once a complete listing is clear, I will arrange a format in which to discuss particulars in private and see where this goes.

Don't forget there is the Inner Circle list, that is private and maintained by the EPICentres servers...
It has been rather quiet recently due to a lack of conspiricies but it still there

My bit of advice on the IP stuff: let's come up with an entirely separate background material and base the unit names on this. A space tank is a space tank, and if the original sculpted piece happens to be not only a good model for the "12th army Terran Unit" but also a nice proxy for a Chimera, well...
I mean, we can't do worse than GW on background anyway, and if names AND models are different, GW wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on.
Still, the "let's keep this private" is an eminently good idea.

I agree with Magnus - a good class of 'counts as' models are the ideal option.

We could always set up another list for the design team.

I want in also. Can help with a bit of green stuff (money, not the other green stuff) ?but not a lot. I have done a lot of conversion work but don't know if I would do very well at sculpting (vehicles only). As soon as I can find a source of "green stuff" I will give it a try.
