I'd love to get a few copies of some of Doug's cooler stuff.
I'm willing to collect some of what Doug has, but others of his collection are simply impossible to get.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

I realise you were talking as a purely non-profit effort, I was just highlighting how expensive it would get for whoever was covering the cost of the moulds.
However, having spoken to Doug on a different matter, I am now enlightened as to the lengths and sheer amount of money some of you guys are willing to put behind your hobby!
You're in a different league to me!

Hi!
Things, I'd like to do:
1. Necrons, using some of the stuff Maksim made and possibly getting some "masters" from the guy who scratch built his Necron
2. Large Imperial vehicles, make original CI's, Hellbores and such, since they are hard to get
3. Bits, like titan weapons (including chaos), both original and not so original....
4. SOB's, we have lists but not models
I'm willing to cover the initial molds of whatever the group wishes to be done first. Of course the master needs to be "original" to avoid IP issues.
I consider the the price of a master mold and one production mold (around 195 dollars) affordable enough to try it. I could talk to this company and see how much they charge for actually casting the stuff.
Heck, wouldn't be worth it to get an original made CI for 10 dollars or less?
Of course the question still remains, do we have a sculptor amongst us that can actually DO these things?

Well Tuff has been starting out sculpting for Fanatic hasn't he... ...and WarmasterNice is an excellent modeller (I'd buy a cast of the airship!)... Seekermeng's stuff was great too, although he hasn't been around for a while.
I am also working on scratchbuild projects at the moment, although I won't be in their leauge for, hmm.. quite a while.
If we get a few people willing to work on this project, it would be exceptionally good, and even talking about it like this shows what a dedicated bunch we have here!

Hmmm.....how are we going to get around the I.P. question? Say whatever GW doesnt know won't hurt them?

The IP thing is interesting. Can we make a Land Raider and have it cast as long as we make it from scratch? How close to the original could it be before it is considered a direct copy? Can we build and cast a Space Marine -again as long as it is from scratch? Or is it considered stealing GW's concept? I don't think there should be any problem with doing our own versions of stuff like the CI, Hellbore etc. Nor do I think it would be any problem to do our own line of Ork vehicles. Another interesting idea is to do "conversion kits" for the Chaos stuff: If you buy a GW Land Raider we have a kit which "happens" to fit the chassis and turning it into a Chaos unit. Same goes for various turrets and Titan weapons.
Another aspect is how complicated we can make the models. If a model needs to be "chopped up" in order to be cast how do we do that? or does the company do that for us (after all THEY are making the moulds). I wouldn't mind trying to do a few models such as vehicles (I'll gladly leave all infantry to Tuff! ) but I just don't know enough about casting to know how complicated the models can be and still be castable. (And let's be honest: None of the models will probebly be anywherre near GW quality sculpts anyway)
...But Iblisdrax is probably right: such a venture -even if it is a non profit project- would probably be safer if it isn't actually trown in GW's face....
Cheers!

In the US, GW has already sued and won against one company I know of that tried to walk the "It's an Ork, but not an Ork" line.
I would be shocked if this company also did not make someone sign a "I own this" type statement.
We should stick to things that are not redos of things GW has done. Things like the Krawla comes to mind. Or our own Sci-Fi tank. It could be in the style (slightly pudgy and not realistic at all) but not be a redo of a GW item.
Just my two cents worth.

As long as figures are not direct copies, and figures are not "sold" - would GW be able to block such plans?
If a few people got togther to create their own figures, sharing skills and costs, then surely this is little different to buying other manufacturers figures and using them as proxys?
