As promised, today I laid out the gaming mat, pulled the figs out and took some happy snaps. ?This lot is (obviously) my SM Force. ?
Most of it is a Dark Angels Force hailing back to the old SM2 era. ?Indeed, it was my first Epic army which was built upon bit by bit as I could afford to buy new blisters (I was in High School). ?Much of it is very basic (I remember spray painting a bulk lot of rhinos green an hour before a game!) and for nostalgic reasons has been left as is ?
You'll also recognise some old 'blast from the past' minis in there... This Army sure brings back many memories, of glorious Victories in His Name, to shameful defeats sullying the name of the Chapter.
More recently I started putting togther a Flesh Tearers Battle Company for use as an ally with my IG army. ?They were just a very different and cool army and I still dont know anyone else who has built one in Epic scale. ?Its about half finsihed.
All up, its about 10k of SM Army, so with some flyers and Titans in support that means I could field a 15k SM army (though that mound of spare Mk1 LRaiders could probably get me another 4k in land raiders but I wouldnt field it so I dont count it). ?And no, I'm not looking to increase that to get another 20k+ force!
Anyhow enough blurb, here are the pics:
Here is the whole DA BattleForce:

The Devestator detachments DA Devestators

The Assault Units: (Check out the old 'Boxcar' Thunderhawks!)
DA Assault Units
Dreadnoughts - the old and the new (the new Dreadies were about the only new style mini, as I'd misplaced my old ones for awhile in one of my numerous moves)

Hi Tas - well worth the wait! Nice army there, and v. nice to see the robots and the old Dreads. For some reason I've got the impression the Land Raiders for the termies are particularly nice - any closeups (glutton!) ?

Of course, no Dark Angel Force would be complete without a unit of the Deathwing present!
Deathwing
Something very cool about DA is that their fast attack and recon units are concentrated into the Ravenwing Company. The very old fluff also used to speak of the "Ironwing Company" which was a Heavy armour variant. I always thought that was pretty cool (which in hindsight eventually led me to a Guard Army)

Heres the Flesh Tearers Force. as I said its about half done as I got sidetracked a little along the way...
Flesh Tearers
In due course it will be a full Battle Company (and fluffy too) with 2 Tactical, 1 Assault & 1 Devestator detachment (for a total of 10 Companies), supported by some LRaiders, termies, Whirlwinds, a THawk and some Dreadies (yes- old style Furiosos again!).
In time, I'll maybe scratch up some 'Baal' Pred variants
The first Tactical detachment;
FT Tactical
The Assault detachment (with Chaplain of course!) FT Assault
Thats it - Hope you like em!

Looks good Tas. I like the idea of the Flesh Tearers. I agree, I do not know anyone who has them as their chapter.
I do like the old 'Boxcar' Thunderhawks, brings back memories of arguments about how come they could carry more then the Rhinos, when the Rhinos were the same size.
We were so funny.

It must have been fun watching their face as you put out a formation of 12 Land Raiders. ? ?

Oh yeah - I remember in one game my Ironwing came around a hill and totally destroyed an undamaged Banelord Titan in one salvo (its a LOT of dice!). Talk about demoralising your opponent!
An expensive formation, but moments like that pay for themselves!
