Hehe, knew I was going to stir things up a bit... but that rant against squats has been building for a while... }:)

What was GW thinking when they chose the name 'squat' anyway?!!? :oo ? Its almost like they planned the demise of space dwarfs from the start. ?I guess we should just be thankful they didn't call space elves 'skinnies' ?:)

My Squats have Robots ! :p ?But I do look less Squat-like ... I shaved off my goatee and moustache (reasons TBA at later a date) ! ?I now look like an SM or IG experiment gone terribly wrong ! ?:o ?:blush: ???

It comes from the Rogue Trader. Squats were one of the three abhuman strains. As the term "abhuman" implies, they were not generally so well regarded as they were in all respects mutants and we all know how well the Imperium treats mutants. The term "Squat" was a derogatory term used by the general populance of  the Imperium (out of earshot, of course) just like "Ogryn" and "Ratling". The Squats dis NOT call themselves Squats.

Definitely not. I hate that name, it brings into my mind some distasteful noises one makes when having digestion problems...  :L

IIRC the RT rulebook said they "prefer the term Dwarf" but as I don't have it with me right now I can't be sure. I'll have to check when I get home.

When the first 40K "Squat" plastic models came out, they were called "Space Dwarves".  "Squat" was a semi-derogatory term used by the "Humies" like the term "Skinnies" was used for one of the Alien races in Heinlein's Starship Troopers. It reflects terms found in the historical record like Kraut, Nip, Charlie, etc. (refraining form the more inflammatory names).  :D

Hi!

I find it difficult to swallow that they were "eradicated" so easily. The squats actually maintained the scientific method alive. They not only understood their machines but could develop new technologies.
