OK, I was talking to a friend and told him of my plans for some of the Robots I have. He claimed that the robots were for te Marines. I told him I thought they were for the Guard as they did come on the Guard Sprue. Then another friend chimed in and said they were really neither, they were Adeptus Mechanicus. So now I am looking for one of you with a far greater understanding of the lore to help me.
Are they Adeptus Mechanicus on loan to the Guard?

Nowadays they are none as Adeptus Mechanicus lost the robot technology somewhere between the age of SM2 and the dark age of Epic40000.
If you want the original fluff the Legio Cybernetica is an AM fighting arm just like Collegia Titanica (eg. the titans). The legio cohorts were used to support both IG and SM, although it seems that as usual the Marines also built their own robots.

I've got a bunch of epic robots lying around... can someone remind me what they proxy as in EA at the moment! I like the idea of using them.
I remember playing 40k rogue trader when robots had those cool but unwieldy 'program' rules. Each turn you went through the robots program to see what it would do. Criticals could damage important steps in the program like the 'friend-yes/no?' step which occured before 'charge/shoot target' step! Made for some entertaining games.

In EA, the Imperial robots proxy as ogryns, although you're free to mount individual models anywhere you want. Marine robots proxy as dreads.
Some types of robot look suspiciously like mk4 SM dreadnaughts, actually.

Oh yes we have....
or at least I have, I really don't like those guys, and yes Markconz. I remember the old programs too...take and hold etc The old metal robots I tend to use as dreads but the plastics end up canabalised or in a pile in the bits box.

Hi!
They are on loan from the AM, so I'd say any imperial force should be able to use them.

In SM1, (the event that started it all) Robots could be used by any Imperial Force, SM, IG & Squats. Orks could use them as Looted Odd Bitz as well as Cultist could have them too. The originial IG sprue came with one as well as the Mk.7 SM sprue. Plus there were 5 metal robots types. I have 4 dets of metal and 4 of the plastics. I agree with Primarch - on loan, etc ...

Wasn't there some of the usual Fluff clutter when GW tried to explain the disappearance of Robots? I seem to recall something about AI being outlawed throughout the Imperium as a possible explanation.
Anyway. IMO Robots would indeed be Adeptus Mechancus/Tech Guard weaponry -I have the pics to prove it in the General miniatures section:;):
Cheers!

Do the Tech-Guard (or whatever we're calling the Adeptus Mechanicus forces) have a robot army card in NetEpic?

Hi!
We are re-introducing the robot cohort company cards in 5.0 along with an AM army list.

Yep, the Scutarii/Tech Guard have robots too. And they are staying with my SMs, IG, Squats and Tech Guard. I don't care what the "fluff" says ...
