I went to see "I, Robot" at the local cinema yesterday. As a film, it is actually quite good. As a dramatisation of the book, it was awful. It pretty much played up to every concern and frustration that Asimov ever expressed about the reaction to his books. It was ironic that the film went down the road that he always complained about the most!

- Anyone else seen it?

- And is it a coincidence that the robot is called Son(n)y?

I expected the worse and was pleasantly surprised.

It stands fine alone as entertainment and while it was changed from novel, it didn't do too badly.

Shalom,

Is it typical summer blockbuster Will Smith material, aka Men in Black, Independence Day, etc.... ?

Hi Jimbo,

No, it had some kind of plot... it was adapted from an Asimov novel after all! :D

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I was also told it was quite good. Perhaps I'll see it this weekend.

Personally, I like most Will Smith films. I thought that MIB was quite entertaining, and ID4 was at least different. I found the plot to be fairly standard fair. I think that all that I can say about the film is to re-iterate that, as a film, I found a great diversion from 2 hours. But, Asimov would hate it thoroughly.

I must admit that I have been a huge Asimov fan for a long time (although I have never seen a good adaptation of one of his books, beyond Fantastic Voyage).

I liked it also. But as it said, at the beginning credits, "Suggested" by Asimov's book, IIRC. And the 3 Rules were Asimov's IIRC. ?It was quite entertaining, even thought it was a very broad "take" on the book. ?I'm personally looking forward to "Alien vs. Predator" (AvP) opening this weekend. ?I don't expect Shakespeare. But I do expect a lot of wanton bloody violence ... Predators and Bugs slaughtering each other with humans packing automatic weapons, grenades, etc. caught in the middle ! :;): ?Now that's entertainment ! :D

*cough* It's actually 'laws' L4...
Sorry.. too much of a Asimov purist.. :D
I heard it was reasonable too, so I'll probably go and see it sometime...

stormseer: If you are another Asimov fan, let me know what you think. Will Smith is more MIB in the film than the Dick Tracy of the books, and Dr Susan is completely a new character much more 'empowered'.

Hi!

I go to the movies to stimulate my visual sense, not my brain, I use books for that.

A good movie for me is lots of action.... :D

Just saw Alien vs. Predator !  Very exciting !  Like a video game or Space Hulk/ASC on 'roids ! No tricky plot or story line.  Just a lot of action, violence, etc.  Makes me want to kick someone's butt !  Have to go to Toys R Us and see if they have any new Micro Machines or models for "AvP" ! :D  Check it out ! :;):
