I've found myself with an extra Dreadnought, so I thought I would take the opportunity to create my first custom unit for my space marine chapter, the Embers of Doom. ?
Embers of Doom venerable dreadnought (name TBA) Modified Punisher-class Move: 10cm Saving Throw: 4+ CAF: +6 Flamer: Template. ?4+. ?TSM: 0. ?Ignores cover. ? Lightning claws: May reroll 1 die in CC. ? Command unit, elite. 100 points special card. ? |
?What do y'all think? ?CAF too high? ?Point cost too low? ?Does it need a freakish psychic power?

Hi!
Cost to low this needs to be in th 150-200 points category due to the high CAF and flamer weapon.

Hmmm... yes, that sounds reasonable. I didn't take the "command unit" thing seriously enough, I guess. I was like "Ogryn squad + Hellhound =..." But Charge + First Fire can be very powerful. Now I just need a name. My Commander is named Chavez. Something en espa?ol, I should think.

Hi!
I would say, given the abilities that 200 points is a good cost.

I also would say 200 Points for such a unit. Also the "normal" punisher dreadnoughts are really powerful, so we also made them worth 200 points. But your dreadnought detachment is a specialcard and so 200 points are correct. There is only one question, can you transport them with Thunderhawks??? If yes, your dreads would be very strong. CU

Hi!
SM dreadnoughts count as vehicles/walkers and may not use such transport. Eldar dreadnought count as infantry for movement so they CAN use similar transport.

Mmm... perhaps I haven't made myself clear. I wasn't planning on fielding a detachment of these guys, just one as a special character.

Hi!
Oh. Then why not just add a special transport to it as part of the special card?

Can dreadnoughts be transported by anything? I thought they were too big or something.

Hi!
Technically they cannot be transported by rhinos, but if its a special card with a character type dreadnought, an exception could be made.

As I consider it... nahhhh... I can barely even believe that 10 infantrymen could fit in one of those Rhinos, let alone an enormous mecha like a dreadnought! I'll playtest it a bit in the next few battles at 200 points and see how it goes, if it seems worth 150 or more like 200 points.

You could always convert a Dreadnought transporter - or use a Drop Pod! Although this would make it even more terrifying.

Hi!
A drop pod would be a good idea, those are supposed to carry dreadnoughts....

Yep ! Drop Pods, Dropships, CI and Hellbore could/can all carry dreads ... IIRC ?!
