They weren't driven away, they broke trying to activate!

I don't know if that's better...

The M41 vs. PT-76 is an interesting match ...

At least it's consistent with the sh*tty tanks theme!

The 6mm forum has been noticeably lean on Cold War stuff lately. Time to correct that.
Got some great stuff from Heroics and Ros. Great service from the U.K.

British SAMs. The Rapier!

Ground stations for those important targets:

French Rolands on AMX-30 chassis. Like any good AA unit they're checking six. I would never mount turrets backwards by accident :P

Soviet (full) frontal aviation. These are Trumpeter 1:350 scale naval models, hence the smaller size and extra seat in the frogfoot.

Your stuff looks great, even more so on terrain. Those ruskies look serious about getting their grubby Communist hands on those freedom loving German turnips.

Thanks, man.
Yes, the German turnips are in trouble.

Unfortunately, the tan on the Frogfoots got bleached out by my tablet camera. It's not that bright in real life.

Thanks Dave. This was the Dutch debut, and we played the dirtside encounter scenario. Very entertaining, but it did not end well for Major Milhouse Van Hauten and his subordinates.

Finally DONE with the Cold War stuff. This is what I call limping to the finish line. Not my best work, but I can finally put a bow on this project.

I had a bunch of French, Brit, and US aircraft to build and paint, and it was a pain.

First of the last are the UK skimmers and flyers.

Army Lynx (naval lynxes from trumpeter 1:350 ones converted with skids vice wheels
Image

Harriers (again, trumpeter 1:350, this time marine AV-8s, but who's gonna notice?)Image

Considerably easier to deal with were the French aircraft (irony?). These are Heroics and Ros 1:300. Not as detailed as GHQ or C in C, but reliable shipping across the pond, good prices, and quite good after a cleanup. I'd recommend H&R, definitely.

Jaguar (CAS and lobbing nuke duty). I've always liked this aircraft for its curious overwing missile rails and seeing it on TV during Desert Storm.

...and the Mirage F1:

Last but not least, the Americans.

1:350 Huey Cobras, again from Trumpeter. This time marines are standing in for the army.

Image

Aim High: the USAF makes an appearance. 1:350 trumpeter navy/marine F-4s. These are my approximation of the camo scheme used during Vietnam to the early 80s. The last two (not pictured) are in the grey/green scheme above for use as Luftwaffe or RAF. But they suck, so no pics lol.

So there you have it. About 18 months of painting start to finish. If I had known Heroics and Ros was as cheap and reliable as it turned out to be, I would've ditched the complicated and fiddily (for their size) plastic aircraft kits and went all metal. Oh well.

Well done Capt! Everything looks great. You should "reward" yourself by starting to work on your LatD army... ::)
