Hello there,
A quick question regarding military organization.
I am making my marines into 3 differentiated groups. The thing is that there is a 4th group of hravy support (tanks and barrage fire) that acts as a support for the main battle group in the chapter. My question is if those would be a separate company or they act as a support feature inside the structure of the main company. If so, what kind of chain of command exists here? Does the support armoured group has his own command/captain/whatever? (think marines here, I know the marine compaies should not deserve such name)
Thx in advance
Health and sixes,
Xavi

O.K. Xavi, let me see if I can help. So I take it, you have 3 SM Infantry Companies ? In that case you could have an SM Tank Company attached to those SM Infantrymen. Those 4 Companies would constitute a Battalion Task Force. The Artillery (barrage fire weapons) would be a separate Battery (Jervis calls it an Artillery Company, but Field Artillery is organized in Batteries) in Direct Support of the Task Force. The Task Force is commanded by a Lt. Colonel, with his 2nd in Command (2IC) a Major. Each Company (Infantry or Tank) or Battery (Field Guns) is commanded by a Captain, with his 2IC being a 1st Lt. The Task Force Commander (and his staff) plans, directs and coordinates the fires and maneuvers of the units in the Task Force. Well got to go to work ! Let me know if that covers it !

Fantastic!! Indeed, it covers it. Many thanks. Back to fluff writing Looks like my chapter is a full task force. Great Weird how a chapter master is a lt. coronel now lol
Actually the organization is a little bit more complicated since it is not 3 full companies...
- Uncorn company (around 130-150 marines): main battle force of the chapter. Mostly standard codex organization.
Then we have 2 smaller companies:
- Eagle company: 60 marines: pure assault force, specialized in drop pod opperations to capture critical spots to be exploited later by the main battle force.
- Pegasus Company: 30 marines. infiltration/ assassination/ sniper force. Used to be the 10th company of the chapter, but now it is a specialized regular marine force (not regular, but the marines are veterans, not new recruits).
Then we have the tank units that I planned to use in support of the main battle company. Looks like it is feasible. Good
Given the size of the third one I might give the leader Major status, though. Weird organizatin, I know, but my chapter is rather small and seems unable to rise their numbers over 300 or so. (Still haver to invent a reason why, but lack of geneseed banks is an option).
*rant mode off*
Health ad sixes,
Xavi

Good glad I could help ! I see no real problem with your units. And generally a company is 100-200 men and platoons around 40-50, so you could have those Eagle and Pegasus units as special platoons, like we had in an Infantry Battalion, the Scout and Mortar Platoons. And as a Mech Company Commander, I had a Combat Engineer Platoon and Tank Platoon attached to my Company occasionally. And some times my 112 man company could only muster 65 or so troopers, because of various forms of attrition. I even remember when I was a Platoon Leader in the 101 Airborne, the Company was short it's 3rd Platoon ! So numbers may vary in many cases, but we still had to complete our missions, regardless ...
