Wow, it's been a really long time since I've updated this thread - since tax day.

I actually have been painting.... I managed to finish the Americans. REFORGER in full swing:

Same for the M2 Bradley:

The mighty M551 Sheridan. I have a whole company of these because of the cool factor:

My take on the MERDC scheme.

M60A1, my favorite US tank:

Thank you, gents. The fields are from Hotz Mats. I really like the effect on the tabletop.

Here's the rest of the American stuff:

M60 AVLB:

M992 FAASV (Ammo carriers for the M109s)

M577 command vehicles (I should give them leader in their stats for Dave's sake :P )

"Tanks" for the memories ! Nicely done ! Nice fields too, but you're going to have to pay the farmer for damaging his crops !! :o 8)

Thanks L4. I should also have orange flashing lights on all the vehicles so the locals know to stay back...

Last week Dave and I played another Cold War scenario. It was a Soviet-French scenario, attack-defense game.

I decided to switch it up a bit though. This time, the Reds were defending their gains against a NATO counterattack. I constructed a Soviet force that consisted of the remnants of an airborne landing and it's armored spearhead relief. So, they had an infantry company, a reduced airborne mechanized company (BMD-1), some mighty ASU-85's, a reduced T-64 company, and a full company of T-62s in reserve as a relief force (representing the lead elements of a Category II formation that's supposed to pass through and continue the attack)

The French had a company of AMX-30's, a couple of mech infantry companies (one in AMX-10Ps and an obsolete one in AMX-VCIs). in addition, they had a formation of gazelles and 2 platoons of AMX-10RCs.

Things did not go well for the French. They have very good firepower, but it couldn't compensate for the weak armor. I set out to create a glass hammer with the French stats and it worked a little too well, haha.

Some pics of the action:

Ain't nobody getting past these bad boys (ASU-85s):

Vive le France!!! AMX-30 company with supreme commander before some unfortunate attrition:

AMX-10RCs advancing through the village:

The T-62s arrive:

The French need a larger margin of numerical superiority I think, in addition to more ATGW to out-stick the adversary. However, my willingness to spend more $$ on this "side project" is a bit limited...

Great looking game ! Yeah the locals get upset when you run something over or roll thru their crops. A couple of my M113s drove thru a beet field. The US had to pay the damages ! :o My unit was in REFORGER '88, IIRC ...

Had another game vs. Dave last night. It was the debut of my Americans.
it was a couple of tank-heavy team yankee-style formations, couple of infantry platoons, and a couple formations of Sheridans (oh yeah!). i went for the retro look, nothing newer than M60A1s, M901 ITVs, and the Sheridans.

Good news: it looked really cool
Bad news: in my force building enthusiasm I went a little heavy on the American side and it was not a very good balance for an attack-defense game. But at least I found a way to beat Dave! :P

Dave has the pics. Whenever he has a chance he'll upload them.

Unfortunately Maneuver Damage happens ! ::) In the ROK, C.Co's big old mutt mascot jumped out of the Cdr's Jeep. And killed 4-5 goats ! :o I had to go to JAG and get "Solation Payments" for the goats and give the money to the farmer ... :( I'm sure they ate good that night ... with goat being on the menu ;)

I like that terrain captP ... does look like Western Europe ! You have to balance your task organizations. And with a lot structures it gives your Infantry a lot of placers to hide and ambush. etc. During REFORGER, '88. We hid my dismounted Mech Inf Co in a cornfield. Next to a small town. We destroyed an OPFOR AT Plt [M901 ITVs] as they tried to go into an Overwatch position. Then ambushed a Plt or two of M2 Brads. Then the Bn Cdr in a jeep. Plus a few other of their vehicles. ;D We Won !!!! ;) :spin

Wow, I don't even need to put up pics and I get comments :P

Since Dave has failed to prioritize his life sufficiently (moving house - bah! he should be posting pics on taccom!), I'll go ahead and post on the game I GM'd on Saturday. UberChris (USA) and Amerger84 (Soviets - might've butchered Brad's forum name there) were kind enough to be my new guinea pigs for Cold War '84.

UberChris took Teams Yankee and Bravo (pretty much straight out of the FoW rulebook OOB, except I'm short of Dragon ATGW teams). an ITV platoon, an infantry coy.(-), a formation of 8 M551, and a battery of M109s with FAASVs. They faced off against a battalion of T-72s, two mech coys with BMPs, a coy(-) of BRDM 3s, and two batteries of 3 2S3s. It was another delaying action, this time on a winter board at the Battle Standard in Auburn, MA.

UberChris only found out mid-game that there were 40 T-72s instead of 30 :P I had set an impossible goal for the Soviets and that was my last-ditch effort to rescue the scenario. But it was fun seeing his face when I put the extra company on the board on turn 3 ;D

Artillery was pre-plotted - the M109s got 3 barrages, while the 2S3s got 2 each. I gave the 155/152mm's 2BP per tube. So pretty good power-wise, but it was a guessing game based on terrain and where the players thought they'd be in subsequent turns.

Without further ado, the pics:

Various shots of the action

Soviets take some casualties:

The view from Team Bravo:

Where'd that extra tank company come from?!?

More action:

About to get hot n' heavy:

Too hot! Too heavy!!! Mixin' it up between a BMP company and team yankee:

The yanks hold firm. Turnips safe for harvesting (at least the ones not ground into paste by tank tracks - the farmer is about to have a word...)

Team Bravo is hurting but holding the line against two formations of T-72s. The Soviets can't win at this point:

I have found that constructing a good delaying action scenario is a bit tricky. Despite the groans when the extra T-72s made their appearance, the Americans had a lot of force available and it turns out that the objective was out of reach for the Soviets by turn 4 (the game length I had chosen). So, a combination of more time and less defense may be in order.
