UPDATE:
Project progressing slowly but unsteadily. I finished a Squat Warrior detachment for my second Brotherhood this weekend. Next I'll do Thunderers and, after that, Berserkers.
Sorry, no pics until the brotherhood is ready. That's because I only flock the stands all at once and my work is not good enough to justify pics of incomplete minis.

Most of my poor models spend their time 'travelling'. I guess getting varnished is miniature-nirvana, then...and as I sail serenely off-topic again, I picture a hundred thousand orks chanting Ommm...

However, I must admit that this is mostly a deliberate choice. I could paint somewhat better, but even at the current rate my armies barely grow. If I started to mess around with washes, blending and highlights for infantry i'd be painting at the rate of one stand per week instead of one platoon per week. ?  |

same problem here - quality or quantity (not that my quality even when going slow is anything to speak of, nor my quantity when going fast...) - the trick, as you said, is being happy with your level and getting an army ready, something I manage to do so rarely it's a megacelebration when I manage. Which is why I have some 38 diferent armies (all GW games-related - I should be sponsored!) out of which four are complete (i.e. tournament size-ish) .... and this means I have no Epic, BFG or Warmaster armies/fleets complete as yet... sigh.
Anyway, don't you dare not post those Thunderer pics. Want see!

I would still post the pictures.
I know how you feel, I look at my stuff and then I look at some of the other stuff I see and I think hmmm I could never reach that standard....
Though (he's not looking is he) I never really liked Tuff's stuff for ages until I realised that it was his photography which was letting him down and not his painting.
Having seen his work photographed for EA, and comparing the same models with the photos he took, I realise that he is a so much better painter than I gave him credit for and now look at all his models in a totally new light.
They are really really good.
It is the lighting which causes the issue actually or probably the flash.
Back to the point I was making, I like looking at models, please post some pictures.
I doubt anyone will go

Absolutely. Besides, it is not just painting that we look at, there are the conversions, the colour schemes, the ideas, the character and other things in a mini. Anyway, if I can submit myself to public shame by showcasing my stuff, I am sure that you can too.

Thanks for the honesty Jimbo - I'm always amazed so many people do seem to like my work when I can always come up with better examples from other painters/modellers!
Interesting comments on the photography though. In my (so very humble mr Jimbo Sir...) opinion, my photography has improved lately, but it appears you would not agree. I am well aware that I have a lot to learn on many fronts, and photography has somewhat taken a back seat in my list of things to improve! If you are planning on attending Salute, I would greatly appreciate the chance to show you some of my more recent work in real life & see how you think they compare to the photos.
Back on Topic however:
I whole heartedly agree that it doesnt matter what stage of painting, level of skill (or insanity) or amount of detail a model holds - we all still like to see them & it should be posted. My workbench is one of the most visited pages on my site & it contains nothing but half done works!
Part of the interest behind the Diary concept is to see the pieces in the making & get an insight into the steps used in the creation of a unit / army. To give you some idea, I didn't like the painting of these tanks

Not sure why, probably the edged highlighting which was heavily emphasised by the flash (as indicated by the shadows).
Have you tried taking pictures without the flash and just using the ambient light (or even taking them outdoors)?
However I did really think very highly of the Tau and your Imperial Stormtroopers.
I also think the Warhound Titan is some of your best work ever.
If you are planning on attending Salute, I would greatly appreciate the chance to show you some of my more recent work in real life & see how you think they compare to the photos. |
I would like to go to Salute but think it is unlikely I can make it...

Point (and all the other points by Jimbo & co) taken. I'll take some pics today. I'll do an experiment and take pics with and without flash and see how they turn out.

UPDATE:
I finished the second brotherhod during the weekend. Well, almost, it's still missing the flags on the command stands. I also painted my first battery of Thunderfire cannons. Pic here. Astute readers may notice I've "gone Warhammer" as I painted the runes of accuracy and seeking to the gunshield of the thunderfires.
Total army size in Net Epic points: 3400.
In case some of you are wondering where the older pics disappear see the first message in this thread; I've just edited it.
