Have all versions from SM1 on ... and all F/W Epic.  If I had to do it again ... F/W stuff is too fragile for most "hard corps" gaming, save for the TAU, I would not have bought most of the F/W Epic ... I really don't know why they even started to make F/W Epic ?  ???

I was never really happy about the e40k manticore (re-used for E:A); the FW version is nice but I still have a soft spot for the old SM-era version.
As for Basilisks I can only agree with all that have been said: The GW version is more gameworthy but the FW one is definitely better looking.

For scale purposes the FW basilisk looks a bit smaller; the tracks are thinner as is the barrel but when you line the e40k basilisk up next to it it is really all the stowage and ekstra armour plating that makes it seem bigger.

Cheers!

I never cut the flash out between the F/W Basilisk, Medusa, etc. railing. ?I look at it as armor plating ... dead crews can't fire ... ?Plus it makes them less fragile for gaming purposes. ?In retrospect the F/W Epic is generally redundant and too fragile. I made a poor choice in starting to collect them ... oh well ... ? ? :L

Hi!

I wonder if the quality of FW is going down lately since my experience with FW stuff is quite good and they are pretty robust.

Are they putting out crappier stuff lately?

No, I don't think so.  I have at least one pack of everything Epic that F/W makes and the quality is generally very good ... but many of the smaller barrels are too flimsy ... and the Falcon and Nightspinner are an accident waiting to happen.  At least the G/W metals are pretty solid and resilient, IMO.

On looks alone, I much prefer the FW variants of both the Manticore and Basilisk. I really dont like the enclosed crew compartment Basilisk, and the 'missile rack' Manticore has never been a favourite. If I get any, they will be FW.

thanks for the opinions guys. After much diliberation i've decided to get both. well a pack of FW basilisk to complete an all basilisk art company in the old style and buy the new art comp and split it into batteries as I don't like the FW manticore.

I received my Imperial Guard Character packs from MO this morning.

These are very nice models. ?Nothing miscast in any of the blisters, which is good.

The contents are:

2 Commissar Yarricks

3 Commissars

9 Officers (5 differing models)

3 Standard Bearers (2 differing models)

5 Sanctioned Psykers (2 differing models)

1 Ogryn

3 Vox-operators

3 Guardsmen (a funny looking model this one, has an open great coat a large hat and a lasgun, I guess you could use it as an officer if you wanted)

You get these on 6 sprues in the blister, in this way.

Sprue 1 (one per blister):

Ogryn, Standard Bearer, Officer, Officer (both officers on this sprue are quite fancy looking, I think they are meant to be Supreme Commanders)

Sprue 2 (three per blister):

Officer, Vox-operator, Psyker, Guardsman, Commissar

Sprue 3 (two per blister):

Officer, Standard Bearer, Psyker, Officer, Yarrick

This pack is great, I really like the variation of the officers, and nearly all of the models are very well done. ?

My favourite model has to be the regular Commissar. ?He has a Powerfist and Bolter, and the extra detail that has been sculpted on him (its based on the old plastic commissar) is great.

Are all the characters modeled with the steel legion breather mask?

By looking at the picture it would appear they are, can you confirm this?

Thanks for the report.

Most of them have a mask.  The only ones that don't are Yarrick and the Sanctioned Psykers.

Appreciate that. Looks like these character packs are turning out to be pretty high quality.
