@Todderman
Well, at least some AOTs in the Guards and of course some stuff in the Krieg list...

Well I am back as well, had been a great tournament. Thanks for organizing guys! And also thanks to my opponents, I had some very thight games, especially the last against UK. I also want to nominate two units for best kill/points ratio:

The attached Hydra in RegHQ:
- A Vampire full of Aspect Warriors including Autarch
- A Thunderhawk including Terminators and upgrades
- Two Fighta Bommas
- A couple of ground units

The Deathstrikes
- A Trygon
- Three Gorgons including 14 Siege Infantry
- A Macharius
- A Warhound
- A Void Spinner
Please note that I only fired five rockets and played against Krieg only once.

I am still disapointed at myself for making crucial mistakes in the last game (too stupid to move, to greedy to wait...) and
playing so slow that I and my opponent could not finish the game properly in the first two games. Overall my own performance (Draw due to time, Winning Draw due to time, 2-0,3-0, and 0-2 due to me unable to manuevre correctly/rolling bad on 4 critically occations which all would have taken the game into turn four) was subpar, looks that I have to train more.
Next time I have to do better at painting as well, one vote is not enough for my ego :D

Well, maybe in Stockholm :)

Thanks to Dave, Steve and their team for organizing the event.
The quality of the terrain was very basic, this being the only thing worth criticizing,
standing out all the more for otherwise it was a very well organized and very well run event.

It was great to have 4 nations participating, hopefully we can see a raise next year in Stockholm making the event more accessible for a second Nordic (not Scandinavian as I learned at the tournament :) ) team and hopefully another team from "the continent".

My army did surprisingly well in the tournament (the result doesn't mirror it's quality) and it never felt inadequate except probably in the last game (against the Feral Ork list). The dice rolls were ok, so I must admit I just played really bad, throwing away two draws and not pressing for a second win. Too complacent after last year, lacking in concentration and ill prepared. I hopefully learned something from that.

I'm sure we will field a German Team in Stockholm and I hope to meet you there.

Thanks again to Dave, Steve and co for a great event.

@Meph,
On a different note, when and how are you going publish the full results of the tournament?

Also as a general point about these EEC tournaments, where can we store the armies and results in a manner similar to the E-UK Championship?

how did two deathstrikes kill 3 gorgons?

Your army was fantastic, I think you just suffered from the 'oh it's guard' reaction.... guard armies tend to be more basic colour schemes and the weathering and mudding tends to reduce their 'pop' compared to brightly coloured eldar and marines, I'm sure you'll have many votes next time! :)

Your army was among the best there and i'm going to send you constant reminders to enter epiccomp this year when the time comes!

In terms of my own games I am fully expecting to be the lowest ranked individual player! But I certainly enjoyed all my games and at least I avoided the ignominy of the 5–0 defeats from my first tournament experience last year. Much closer games for me this time, with two of my 1pt defeats coming down to the final activation. More tournament play has helped me see where my list needs tinkering as well. I just need to find a way to get to more events now …

My god those armies are amazing. The pale orcs, necrons - the guard stood out for me too (in a way guard usually don't). When I first saw that Chaos army pic above I thought someone had done some crappy photoshop on it. No! It's real! Totally inspired...

Oh and well done team UK south - when you're strong, act weak. Eh?

Another round of thanks from me to Steve and Dave for organising and running such a great event. It felt gruelling by the end of day 1's fourth game (especially facing Team UK...) but it all worked smoothly. Also thanks to my opponents - every game was enjoyable - yes, even getting battered by Steve, in a way.

Highs and lows for me:

Against Tom's Krieg things didn't start well, losing the strategy roll-off (and thus a void spinner) and then rolling a 1 to hit a juicy gorgon with the spaceship. Overall I probably overcommitted some of my AA assets but I did manage to destroy one of the gorgon formations which is more than I've managed before. This game came down to the last activation, my air assault vs an infantry formation. This would have yielded either a 3-0 win or a 4th turn, but the vampire was shot down turning it into a 2-1 loss. You can call this bad luck, or a direct consequence of sacrificing my falcons.

For some reason my memory of the game vs Chris's guard is hazy, except of course losing a vampire full of aspects -again-, this time to a hydra (I think this was a crit?). Not the autarch in fact, but still. We ran short of time so the other aspects didn't get their chance to get shot down by that hydra. The game ended on countback, a losing draw.

I had a feeling UK South's round vs UK North could prove decisive, and Darren's orks had beaten me in our last match-up. In the end this game was quite embarrassing. That is, it was embarrassing how badly the orks were crushed. I hit 3 formations with my spaceship barrage, including knocking out a load of flak. Darren failed to CAP both sets of FBs, two turns in a row. He moved forward but couldn't really touch any of my stuff. By the end of turn 2, he had actually killed more of his own units than mine: failing 3 dangerous terrain tests from his stompa mob and killing only 1 unit. His broken formation were two small to rally well and so he didn't have enough in turn 3 to stop me winning 4-0. Darren took it in great humour, reasoning that he had had some good luck in his previous game to balance it out...

...and so it turned out to be for me. Facing Steve for Team UK was one of the most one-sided games I've played. We had the same list, and we both knew it would be crucial who won the roll-off to plot the spaceship. Steve won that, and yet again showed masterful prediction of where units would be, critting a void spinner and breaking flak straight off the bat. From this moment I knew it was a hopeless cause. In retrospect I could have deployed in the open spaces but of course that has its own downsides. It didn't help that I forgot to activate my own spaceship when it arrived turn 2 until the void spinner had already activated - and when it did, it only caused a single point of damage. I still thought I could keep it to a 2 or 1 point loss or even a 4th turn up until the end; Steve couldn't be strong everywhere and I was saving my air assaults to contest the weakest objective. Luck continued to elude me however, as one vampire failed its activation and the other (with BTS aspects inside) came down to a shot from a firestorm. That sealed a 5-0 win for Steve, and thus payback for the one-sided game against the Orks.

The final round for us was France. Despite not having any sleep the night before I enjoyed playing the nids a lot. I made some mistakes in this game due to not knowing the list well (e.g. not bothering to retain thinking I was outside of harms way) and also indecision in whether to take on the BTS, but overall things went roughly to plan. This involved killing the harridan and allowing him to close on the formations blocking the corner of the board, contesting at the end of the game and meanwhile using my mobility to take the other side and blitz. The French guys had to leave to catch a flight so we called the game a 2-1 win.

All of my opponents' armies were wonderfully painted. It's a real pleasure to play against them, to the extent that it's almost a shame to remove them from the board. Almost. ;)

@Largo_W You're lovely Gaurd got 4 votes for best painted, putting your third behind Matt L and Kev, no need for tears ;)

@Ginger The data will go up soon, I was out demoing Guildball last night so no time to sit and type.

As to the database that would be trickier. As no two events will run in the same manner, it would be harder to generate a simple solution I guess. If people want to take on that challenge I'll provide the data I have.

Right, lets start with an easy bit.

Here are the final standings from the weekend. VP's are the total off each players games scores. The bonus column was awarded to a team that scored more VP's than their opponent each round, therefore 'winning' the round.

Code:
           VPs   Bonus   Total
UK         442   100     542
UK South   344   60      404
UK North   308   40      348
Viking     296   20      316
Germany    282   20      302
France     248   20      268

The round by round scores look like this :-

Round One
UK beat UK North 86 - 42
France beat Germany 72 - 56
Viking, UK South drew 64-64

Round Two
UK beat Viking 76 - 52
UK North beat France 104 - 24
UK South beat Germany 84 - 44

Round Three
UK beat France 88 - 40
UK South beat UK North 96 - 32
Germany beat Viking 80 - 48

Round Four
UK beat UK South 102 - 26
Viking beat France 70 - 58
Germany, UK North drew 64-64

Round Five
UK beat Germany 90 - 38
UK North beat Viking 66 - 62
UK South beat France 74 - 54

The best painted was a players vote, with all 24 participants voting. Eight armies received votes, with both Matt L and Kev getting 7 each. Kev won the roll off and took the trophy.

That's the bare bones. More details will appear on each teams page on the Epic UK site and I'll post links once its been done.

Seems like a better idea to let people choose a first, second and third best painted so that when you get a situation like this the 10 people who didn't choose Kev or Matt as 1st place determine the winner based on their second choices :)

Maybe have them swap their vote for 1st/2nd/3rd for their pizza after the first day of games?

It's pretty unusual to manage to get all the votes in

I was hoping to see something similar to the EUK database, so ideally the players, their lists and the individual results, with the team results in a separate section (which would require some work to add to the current database)

As this would effectively be a duplicate of the current EUK database, the real question seems to be where to host this and how to maintain it. Ideally I suggest it would be somewhere centrally accessible with each event organiser / judge being given temporary access to load the relevant data etc.

Thoughts?
