Thinking about it some more, it shouldn't be too dashed difficult to add a little structure to the bottom of these and pass them as good looking Thunderfires, too. Additional plus - they're pretty damned cheap.

We were running a small tournament in London at the weekend with a squat army there using the 1.5 rules, and tbh the AA seemed fine - it effectively interdicted over half the table, and with reasonable amounts of terrain on the table it wasn't that hard for them to get them in pretty solid positions to start the game. Even Speed Freaks with a massive fighta unit was put off having a punt, so i wouldn't say there's a major issue with it at the moment, and afterall armies can have weaknesses - you don't have to be great at everything!

If people are really unhappy with them though, you could always just give the thunderfires some movement i guess, even if it's just say 5-10cm. Given they've got big armoured skirts on the models there could be some tracks under there, and the question has to be asked otherwise how to they get them around? seems a bit crazy to have to take it apart, load it onto trucks, and then rebuild it somewhere else after all.

I'd echo this Richard, 5cm might be the best option. After all, goliaths look every bit as static as thunderfires and can move!
