I find it interesting that you guys really like the base finish when it's probably the easiest base style i've shown, basically sand glued on to the plain base and drybrushed. Just goes to show simple is often best. :)

I once spent every evening for at least a week, two-brush blending every surface of a 28mm horse-and-rider. Posted pictures, got something like three very lukewarm replies. Painted a bunch of trollbloods in devlan-mudded block colors, posted pictures, had about a hundred variations of 'whoah; please give me your recipe' in a day or two ..

The internet is weird =P

@ luca77 i have a batch of World Eaters vehicles on the go so it should not be to long i hope. Then i need to get started on the marines themselves.

Just finished the first pieces of my modular trench system for my Hexon II boards. I'm fairly pleased with the way they turned out. The paint job is just flat colours for now as they will be finished later once i have played around with weathering options for them. The earth will be shaded and highlighted at the same time.

I know hexes are not most peoples cup of tea but we like them. :)

So you're taking plain hex tiles and cutting them to fit with the trench works? Nice.

I thought they did flocked stuff. They sell straight plain ones you can texture / paint?
Suddenly that seems very nice to me :)

Hey guys i'm not ready to show my hex boards yet as it's far from finished but i will do once they are more presentable.

We have the plain tiles which we are finishing ourselves with textured paste from Vallejo. These are not the actual hexes themselves but the template style flat pieces that they do for marking out woods and the like. I aligned and glued the trenches to these bases and then used foam core card sheets to build up the ground level to match the actual hex height. Layered vallejo pumice gel on to blend it all together and then used the coloured sandy paste to match it with the core terrain finish.

I did need to cut the trench straights to appropriate lengths in order to get it all to fit within the hexes. Will be doing more of these and maybe some longer ones to. I see these as being hedgehog style features that would be dotted about in a mutually supporting fashion.

In fact if you look on the previous page at the last picture of the cerberus you can see the trenches stuck to the bases in the background.
