Great job! You've got nice smooth shading on the blues. I do think the transition from blue to green could be more gentle. Perhaps you could use multiple green glazes? Water the paint right down and remove most of the paint from the brush by dabbing on kitchen towel. Then draw the brush from the blue area to green. Start fairly deep into the blue area and with each subsequent glaze, begin the stroke nearer the green area. It might take 20 or so glazes to build up to the green.

Just a thought, the mini is already looking lovely! :)

Also, while I made a joke about your comment, I didn't want to come across as unappreciative of the advice :)

If you can two brush blend, you can get a similar result in a fraction of the time.

Just use P3 or foundry not Vallejo as its non toxic and has a liquid pigment so it blends far more easily than the GW/Vallejo style ground pigment. They are better for drybrushing.

Good tip on the P3 paints. I never really looked at them before as I was sold on the Vallejo droppers. However, liquid pigment, non toxic and a load of other benefits (according to their website) makes me think I should switch.

I love my P3. There are a few known issues from time to time (the wonders of paint mixing and batch production), but honestly I use only really P3 and Foundry (its the same paint and the same as the old GW hex pots, the originals, not those crappy quick dry nonsense that came with the bolter cap)

Make sure you get the black label metals if you do go down that route, and certainly I have plenty of pots with cracked lids, so you might want to invest in decanting into droppers if that's how you roll. Plenty of suppliers on ebay do the bottles for pretty cheap.

But yeah, I love P3 paint, using it for most of my painting. Its takes a little bit of play to "figure it out" but once you do, its the best :)

Note - I'm not a PP shill, I promise ;)

agreed 100% with this, I've shifted to P3 and I think they're brilliant, they cover well, they're much thinner and easier to use straight from the pot, the pigments are super bright, they're designed for wet blending so have a much longer drying time..... I'm a huge fan! my only complaint is that there are some holes in the range (browns for example) which can be frustrating, but other than that I can't say anything bad about them :)

I love my P3's too; they're absolutely amazing for the job they're designed to do: Two-brush-blending and washes.
They also have pretty impressive coverage, especially compared to gw's new shitness stuff.

Beware of their metals, though; at least the first couple production runs were awful; they seperated into a white runny liquid and a gritty, gloopy, undissolvable mess.
I have not bought any of their metals for years though; they really ought to have fixed this by now.

Also, they don't really work for drybryshing.

Reaper make great metals; their Adamantium black is beautiful (o:

Yup, as mentioned, go black label metal or go home.

The white label metal pots are appaling, there was an issue between the studio testers and the final product that made them not far off unuseable and in some instances prone to exploding (I kid you not!)

However, the black label (they literally have black labels) are mint. As good as teh fabled GW metals of yore ;) I use them alongside the army painter metals which are also perfect (Army Painter took the best bits of several ranges to make theirs, though I am having issue with their paints being really claggy and thick, guessing its old stock or a batch issue...)

I hear good things about the vallejo air metals, super thin pigment, which can be a real boon for 6mm, as the scale can be thrown out by the metallic flakes being visible in some instances. Not tried them myself, but they certainly are a buzz work at present.

I totalyl agree P3 misses a few key colours, browns are not as comprehensive as I'd like, but they have other colours, like Coal Black and Skorne Red that are just wonderful. Add in the foundry and coat d'armes ranges and you should have all the coverage you will need.

I'm looking at vallejo model air metallics for my necrons for that very reason :)

You mean the original hex pots, rather than the original GW paints right? Because I don't want to get all old and shaking my stick at you young'uns. ;)

I'm learning a lot from this thread though, particularly about the different makeups of paint. Might it be worth splitting some of this off and continuing a discussion on the various compositions and uses for the different paint ranges. Until reading this I had been quite comfortable with the Vallejo paint I use, but having never had any luck with wet blending (or even wet paletting!) I can't help but wonder if that's partly down to my choice of paints and it's ground pigment makeup...

Okay, digression over, back to your regular topic!

You know I actually used an old pot of Brazen Brass the other night. That pot has to be nearly 21 and it's still in good shape.

Yes I should mention I wasn't dissing those like elsmore who are capable of the pro painting either. Just laughing at how I'm so completely out of that league! :)
