really nice work on these KaJo! love the dark brooding scheme, the ordinatus is very nicely done, clean and crisp with perfect lining around the details to make them pop!

can't wait to see a groupshot :)

Forgot to say in my previous post: these are really nice. What are you using for the bases?

The infantry and small vehicle bases are the small-size (1" x 1.25") FoW bases. While I was originally using the Battlefront plastic bases, my LGS continued to fail to order them for me (and the prices on them were getting silly), so I switched to 2mm MDF versions (these mail-ordered from Sally 4th).

For infantry, I mount the figures and cover about half of each base in random areas using the Vallejo Coarse Pumice resin. After primer coating, the pumice is dry-brushed with medium gray, then light gray. Flocking is applied after the figures are painted.

Taking a short break from painting to catch up with real life, but I'm going to try out my Necrons next week and threw together a Tomb Complex; waiting to paint it until I receive the Deathbot Obelisks (terrain, not vehicle) I ordered from Shapeways so I can mount it atop the large ziggurat:

I love the way that terrain piece is coming together. Do you plan to keep the columns as they are?

Didn't know that, thanks. I think I'll get some when I have the spare cash.

Van Helser: I'll most likely paint the columns, but may etch some detail into them so the etchings appear to be glowing. I have no idea how well that will work; if it doesn't, they'll be painted with some shading to appear luminescent.

Edit: the base is made from a 4" square linoleum tile sample obtained from Home Depot; these happen to be free at the local outlet, and are great for creating modular city/colony layouts for any 6mm game. I have all of my Brigade Models buildings mounted on these (but are likewise yet to be painted). And they're already textured. :)

Yeah I've got stacks of those stashed away as they're FREE and they'll just give you a handful for the asking. Don't be a dick but go load up on them

I assumed they had been used just because they were spare and hanging around, but having a glow-y mystique seemed like not such a bad idea to me. Etching them sounds like it good way to do a luminous marble effect, which is sort of spot on for Necrons.
