I went back to painting after a few months tonight only to discover that all of my washes have evaporated! Is this a common problem with washes or is are these GW washes just pish?

Yep, I keep them in a cupboard which is usually cool. They were all closed as well. Hmm... :-\

GW caps are notoriously leaky. In fact I take theirs and put them immediately into a dropper style (Reaper) bottle for that exact reason.

I'm switching over to the Army Painter washes. They are in dropper bottles and seem to be the origional GW washes with new names.

With gw I'm sure it's deliberate - that way they can keep selling it back to you. I'm never buying gw again because of the bottles. As above, I have good experience with army painter, though last time in my flgs I got convinced to try Secret Weapon by one of the top painters in the area who reckons they flow better. Only used it once but happy so far.

The caps aren't great. I've had some issue with them. One problem is that it's very hard to know when they are actually properly closed. The other is that a cupboard won't help. The wood absorbs moisture. If you want to keep them in the GW cap you'll probably need a small tupperware container that is fully sealed when not in use. Also your cupboard was probably the old "store in a cool dry place" deal. That's actually not good for the leaky lids, as the "dry" part just makes it go faster.

I found that one of my washes dissipated really fast, but most of the others have been fairly ok.

I bought dropper bottles from evil bay and put all my GW paints and washes to them. No leaking or drying anymore
