I used dettol for a while then switched to fairy power spray. I believe simple green might be an equivalent in the states? Dettol works but I found it kind of messy, and yes, running them under the cold tap can make things a lot harder!!

Fairy power spray for me now all the way - and it smells nicer too!

Hi!

I have used simple green and it was the worst performer of the several thing I tested.

Easy off heavy duty oven cleaner was so good, I just dumped everything else.

The only thing I kept was pure acetone for metal models that are glued. Do not use with resin/plstic as the acetone will liquify them!

Hi!

I have seen easy off sold in most stores like walmart or any super market.

I ran a search and an easy off equivalent in the UK is called "Mr Muscle Oven cleaner".

You have to specifically get the "caustic one" that you need gloves to use, the others won't work.

Yeah, thinking about it I think Fairy Power Spray is probably closer to an oven cleaner type product than Simple Green - anything that claims to bust grease is what you want!!

From what I understand Simple Green contains Pine Oil, which is also what Dettol contains, but it's the chloroxylenol (sp?) in Dettol that gets the job done...

It is more expensive than Detol but you can reuse it more easily as it isn't as messy (smell, gunk etc).

Wait, how do you re-use power spray? Are you dunking the minis in liquid power spray poured out of the bottle, or spraying it on?

I use Simple Green available in hardware or even grocery stores for plastic and paint thinner for metal. Soak'm overnight ... then got at them with an old tooth brush ... repeat as needed ... then wash with soapy water ...
