The best product I've got experience using to strip paint off of plastic minis is break fluid. I heard something called dettol works really good too but never heard of it. I guess its a european thing? But I did find bottles for sale on ebay. Was wondering if its good, and if so, what size bottle I should get.

Thanks!

Hi!

Having researched this and actually used several the best one for both metal and resin/plastic is this:

http://www.target.com/p/easy-off-fresh- ... m=easy-off

Believe it of not, you spray this on them, leave it for 30 minutes (or more if you like) and the paint/primer comes flying off.

I have stuff painted over 20 years ago and this is the only thing that worked.

Don't waste your time on anything else.

Hi!

Correct, just a toothbrush afterwards.

Do what I did test, with one model first. I usually leave it an hour, but it is supposed to work in as little as 20 minutes.

Work of caution, use gloves, do not let this fall on your skin.

Other than that I was surprised how well this worked.

I got the idea after an extensive search and some sites that reviewed all methods. Easy off was rated number one choice on all of them.

Let me know how it goes. :)

I used dettol (disinfectant) on some Epic Land Raiders and it worked really well. The paint became very soft and pliant and slight scrubbing with a toothbrush under a running tap worked fine. I did have to pick at the finer details with a toothpick but the paint stayed soft for days ofter so it didn't re-dry and was easy to remove.

I use dettol a lot, the only thing I've found is you're best off dunking the scrubbed models in very soapy water to rinse rather than tap water as it develops a weird sticky gunk otherwise

I used dettol for a while then switched to fairy power spray. I believe simple green might be an equivalent in the states? Dettol works but I found it kind of messy, and yes, running them under the cold tap can make things a lot harder!!

Fairy power spray for me now all the way - and it smells nicer too!

This is really interesting. The thing is there are some very different versions of dettol. Are we talking the basic stuff?

There is dettol antiseptic/disinfectant liquid, which, I think is what you're talking about.

There is also a spray version, a shower foam, heck, even a deodorant.

I hope it is the antiseptic/disinfectant liquid, because that is easy to get where I live.

I've moved from simple green to the wonder that is fairy power spary. Leave models dunked as long as you like then a bit of scrubbing with an old tooth brush removes paint like wonders!

FPS is also good, I prefer dettol myself as you get more for your money, little bit more faff, but I'm pretty cheap.... ;)

Detail is my preferred stripping solution. I have a how to guide on my blog http://mickeysminis.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Dettol

I have had issues with the gun king issue, I will try the soapy water solution.

@Commander Sims, your autocorrect is doing its best... ;)

my advice with the dettol is to keep the soaked models away from water, scrub, then dunk in cold, very soapy water, give them a quick scrub in that, then rinse off with tap water and dry

::) gun king

Normally I rinse in the Dettol which is ok if it's not too old.

Geez... gloves, sticky glunk... i might just stick with break fluid. I did try simple green and it didnt do anything. It was almost like the paint was laughing at me while I was soaking the mini.
