Brilliant, I get to start the day off facing the wonderfully painted World Eaters and the gentleman that is Apocolocyntosis.

Now just to wait for the cries of Fix from Mike and Richard.

My Guard will probably be so disgusted at their paint job relative to your forces that they'll fall into a state on melancholia and fail to do anything.

Well with only 10 players it was likely to happen at some point, and with 4 players from one 'group' clashes between them are likely too.

If only more of the southern contingent could have made this one :(

It's indeed a shame - i was hoping to have at least a couple of guys from Clapham along, but not to be it would seem :( 2 dayers do put some people off though as well i'd guess.

Happy to play Mike! He's always a fun opponent :)

Pictures!

full album here: http://s340.photobucket.com/user/Apocol ... 0challenge
this is not very comprehensive, mostly just snaps of tables I was on and those to either side of me. Seems to mostly be Mike's thousand sons and McMullet's orks now I look back, but both are cracking armies so that's a bonus.

Great weekend of gaming and another fun Saturday night.

Overview of my games:

G1 Tiny-Tim’s steel legion – confusion on the battlefield as both generals appeared wearing the same outfits
This developed into a mid-table brawl and ended on 0:0 on turn 3, with a win on points in Tim’s favour. Corners game, I started rolling the Imperial long edge flank, breaking the SS coy and podding in chosen to assault the lone SS and then consolidate to ZoC the manticores. In return, both of my war engines were blown away in short order and my retinues got strafed by thunderbolts, disrupting or destroying my main offensive formations.

G2 RichardL’s Krieg – the game where I forgot objectives are a thing
Flat out 4:0 loss for me here, the 0:0 end to the last game had distracted me from the existence, let alone the importance, of objectives. However, this was a very fun and bloody game in unit terms. With the Krieg blobbed up inside their gorgons, the chaos orbital barrage landed just to their right with no hits. The pin-point popped open a gorgon and the chosen lost their fight with a warhound. Heavy fighting followed on the mid-line and in the Krieg garrisoned factory. The Krieg steamed forward in gorgon assaults and doubles, wearing my retinues down, before marching down the flanks to take objectives in turn 3. If I’d paid attention to objectives on turn 3 this could probably have been changed to a 2:0 or similar without much difficulty, certainly learnt my lesson on this one!

G3 Marcus’ Codex Marines – dice roll high, then dice roll low …
Another draw, turn 4 objectives 1:0 to Marcus with a win on points to me. A spectacularly destructive first turn: Chosen wiped out a land raider formation, my BTS was blown away, finally finished off by a ground attacking thunderhawk which was then criticaled by intercepting hellblades with the loss of the Devs and assaults inside. I’d lost my BTS but was feeling pretty confident by the end of turn 1.
We both teleported in terminators for turn 2, neither of us picking up any blast markers. Chaos won initiative and terminated a warhound, retaining to fire on the loyalist terminators for BMs and a kill. The marines then counter prepped the terminators’ target and retained to assault and wipe out one of my retinues in two rounds of combat. From this point on my advantage slipped. My war engines disappeared in a succession of poor dice and a critical, while tactical formations push their way towards both blitz objectives. The early loss of my BTS/SC told hard and I couldn’t get enough activations or firepower together to push back the marines as Marcus played a strong end game.

~~~ Intermission: my night of sleepless passion in a room with MikeT (the passion being resentment at sleeplessness occasioned by snoring) ~~~
