Just a thought, but making the walls in 'modular' parts, could be both simpler and allow for inner and outer bends.

This is done by making the wall up in different parts with the rear 'inner' face of the wall shorter, the same length or longer than the front 'outer' face of the wall, and different 'top' surfaces for each type (inner, straight or outer bend).

Indeed, this approach could just allow for different heights as well, constructed from plasticard to published dimensions (different width 'top' surfaces) and guides on constructing the inside supports, or possibly using other moulds if the surfaces are visible.

Being hollow and effectively flat would be the cheapest and easiest shapes to cast, and would also provide the most flexible number of options.

Hi guys, a few replies:

@ SpeakerToMachines - I tried removing the rear wall altogether; the price dropped by exactly 25%, I don't know if that's enough... I guess I could also remove the roof (as it is basically a flat surface at the moment), but I don't know if there would be any point in getting the model at all, then... :)

@ Ginger - Well, I can try and see if making a wall in separate components will make it print chaper, but since shapeways calculates price as a function of the quantity of material used, I don't know if this would work...

@ Epic - Thank you! I'm glad you like my stuff! :)

you could use pillars for the back wall to reduce cost but have something supporting the battlements. then have a metal mesh style walkway running along the top. this might bring the cost down too?

Yes, that could work! I'll see what I can come up with :)

one more idea to extend the design this could be an add-on, outside the wall have an arrowhead shaped bastion enough for one infantry stand and connect it to the main wall with a metal mesh cat walk .

you can kind of see an example of a rounded one here. it could also mean you might be able to set up crossfire on those attacking the walls ;D

Interesting idea! It should come quite easily, too, once I model the corner towers....

Hi Armand

The wall sections look great, regarding the cost yes its high, but then again demand would be high also.

I would suggest you print off your design and just make a silicone mold, and produce it in resin, in small sections. E&C Did a wall section near enough the same to your large wall design, it was cheap, went together really well, and most of all looked the part. Sadly he no longer makes these otherwise i would purchase more from him.

But i think cost wise it will be better for you regarding sales and also cost saving to the purchaser to cast in resin, its a basic design and will be easy to cast.

just my two pence worth.

Regards epic. p.s trying to stay away from getting some of your ships for a while as it will not help my back log of models to be painted ;D when ihave caught up i will defo have some ships as the designs are great ;)

Hi epic! Thanks for your suggestions!

I agree, it would be cheaper to cast them in resin; unfortunately, I don't think I have the time or resources to start casting these myself, and handle the shipping process... But never say never!

Hi everyone, I just realized that I haven't posted any new pictures in a while... These are crazy days at work, but to show that I'm still alive, here's a tiny work in progress!

jimmyzimms - You will, in due time! The plan, as for the merchants, calls for a cruiser hull, a light cruiser "endeavouring" hull, a light cruiser "undaunting" hull, and perhaps a battlecruiser hull... Although, I really should start making some Battleships!

wargame_insomniac - Thank you! For the time being, I don't have a newsletter, but you can subscribe to this topic in the bottom ledt side, above the "new topic" button; I post here all my updates!

Now, I did some more work on the *something* Technocracy prows (by the way, do you guys have any interesting ideas for the name of the faction?); large cannon and torpedo prow:

And just for reference, here's how the prow looks on a space merchant hull:

Cheers guys!
