Hi,

Last week I bought me a good bit of Eldar stuff.

Now I own approx 40 (or a bit more) old-style (plastic) Grav tanks plus 5 metal ones.
Furthermore 18 bases jetbikes and 12 Vypers. (all on 20mm bases; 2x bike or 1x Vyper)

My questions:

Are there (viable) Eldar Army builds with a LOT of Grav tanks (think 20-30 or so)
How would you build a jetbike-heavy list? What else to include?

Stuff I can work with:
-6 units Guardians (4 painted atm) of 8 stands
-6 Heavy weapon platforms and 3 support weapon platforms
-6 stands wraithguard
-18 (!) Wraithlords
-3x Cobra
-5x Scorpion
-3x Night Spinner
-3x Fire Prisms
-2x Fire Storms
-6x Warwalkers
-3x Nighwings
-3x Phoenix bombers
-1x Avatar
-5 stands rangers
-15 stands Swooping Hawks
-4 stands Dire Avengers
-4 Stands Dark Reapers
-3 stands Fire Dragons
-4 Stands Striking Scorpions
-2 stands Howling Banshees
-4 Stands Exarchs
-2 Titans (Phantom and a Warlock)
-1 Revenant Titan

What would you recommend and why? I fully intend to get it all painted but oddly enough I prefer to work towards a viable list first.
Aim for approx 3k-5k lists.

Thanks a bunch in advance

Any thread is useless without pics. So this is the colour scheme of my army/grav tanks. ;D

I don't have any build advice but those tanks look great, especially for 20 year old sculpts!

Saim-hann is probably your best bet for an army with very little infantry

couple of wild rider hosts, a shining spear host, 2-3 falcon formations, maybe a couple of scorpions and some nightwings, sprinkle in a few other bits (rangers for example) and you're good to go :)

I have no shining spears. Or is that an doable conversion?
Furthermore; could you elaborate a little?

At the moment I am considering painting the jetbikes in 2 units of 5 plus a viper, 2 more units of 4 plus 2 vipers leaving 6 vipers. Is that a good mix? Can you have 4 bike units in say a 4k game? What else would you need to make it a viable list?

Plus; is it even remotely useful to paint up 30 (or so) Falcons? Let alone 40. O0
They look great IMO. But no point in spending a large chunk of my time and never being able to field them because you know beforehand it is a losing option to begin with.

Seems to be pretty doable: A little wire and some green stuff with the right paint job should make them clear what they are (says the guy with no intention of making any ;D)

You could do Shining Spears by painting some jetbikes distinctly different from the rest of the army and pointing this out to your opponents at the start of a game. Shining Spears colours are traditionally blue and white and if you did them mostly blue they should contrast well enough from your existing colours for it to be clear. If you could convert some kind of spear onto them that could look cool too, perhaps using a length of wire or thin plastic rod sharpened to a point.

I'm mainly familiar with the EUK saim-hann list, so YMMV....

Wild rider formations are normally 9 strong so you'd need to make sure you have enough jetbikes, you can always base them 2 per base to save numbers.... saim hann can be a tricky force to use as they lack the air assault capabilities of most other craftworlds, you may want to track down some more firestorms for air cover, if you can figure out a way to convert storm serpents from a spare cobra or two (you're never gonna need 3...) they are a good way to deliver your jetbikes into assaults

Swooping hawks are a good formation to add in, they can drop in on T3 and snag objectives and keep your opponent guessing....

I've been wanting to give something like the following a try: possibly switching up Rangers for a Vampire Raider and rejigging my use of spirit stones but there's plenty of bikes and tanks in there. I've seen a good Storm Serpent Conversion that just puts a Wave serpent 'turret' on top of one of the old Cobra's which is quite effective.

Consequently I don't suppose you'd be up for selling me 4 stands of swooping Hawks and a stand of Exarch's at all?!

I've also got my recently converted Shining Spears formation on my painting blog that use bog standard jet bikes and some howling banshee parts: the're quite effective and I can give you the low down if you'd like :-)

Selling? Not really.
Might consider trading though if you have (epic) stuff I'd like to have.
You can see pretty much what I have above.

re; converting shining spears. -> pretty please? I'd like that VERY much!

Hi Elkerly; aw, that's a shame, I don't think I have anything left to trade, sorry! I'll have to be on the lookout via ebay :-)

Right then; converting Shining Spears:

HERE FOR PICTURES: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13937&start=705

Now a quick guide. You'll need:

-Jetbikes
-LOTS of howling banshees! Approximately 2 or 3 per jetbike!

Basically what you'll be doing is removing the sword arms from the banshees and using them as 'spears' for the jetbike riders; that's the idea at it's simplest. You carefully remove the right hand bike riders arm and handlebar and glue the sword arm pointing forwards.
With additional Banshees you can also use extra sword arms to form the banner pole that appears on the rear of the jetbike. For this the sword tip get's cut at 90 degrees and the banshees arm points upright: you'll find it useful to carefully use a scalpel to flatten the rear 'ledge' on each jetbike so as to get a good fit.
An optional but I think quite effective extra is to use the laspistols from 2 banshees to to add some additional 'fins' coming out of the two exhaust ports on the rear of each jetbike...hard to see in my photo's as I've only done this on each central bike but the idea is to get each pistols barrel facing directly outwards to the side in order to diffrentiate the hull of each bike from a normal jetbike even more so...I'll see if I get time to take a top down shot tomorrow.

That's all!
