Just curious, since these guys hardly ever show up in lists it seems and my own experience has been "oh cool... dang I need the points elsewhere and they die easy", would folks consider using Forge Knights more if their cost was about 300 points for 6?

My reason for this is that 375 is too expensive compared to the warhound and they compete for a slot between thunderbolts and Sentinels. They also lack fearless which means a formation of three evaporate after one dies and a formation of 6 can be very difficult to get more than one charge out of if they even get that.

The'd probably need to be in the 200 point cost range to make them a workable alternative to the warhound and compete with sentinels but that might be a bit too good for the points. but maybe 250 for 5?

Why must they be in a formation of 3 or 6 in the first place? It doesn't work too well.

A formation of 4 for a more reasonable cost would work better and make them more viable IMO. They are too expensive now, I doubt I'd ever choose to take a formation of 6 for 375.

Nothing says they must come in groups of 3 or 6, I even listed 5 strong in the first post :)

I think 4 strong is a bit thin for a formation that would need to be in the 150-250 point range. One kill nearly breaks the formation (1 BMfor coming under fire, one for the unit lost, leaves the formation 1 BM from breaking which happens as soon as someone shoots at them again). I think 5 strong is the best size to give a bit of resilience to taking damage. At least then you'd need to kill two units to break the formation.

Why not 6 for 250?

Yes it's cheap but why not test that? I think. A radical points drop is needed for them.

I sort of agree a radical points drop might be more effective. 250 or 275 for six and then if they seem broken at that cost, work your way up. As they are now, there is absolutely no reason I would ever include them in a list. At 250 for 6, I would think about it, but it would not be auto-include by any means.

Yes, 250 or 275 will be enough for them.

Or you give them the Knight Lancer Profile along with the special rules like Might of the Omnissah, Bravery, Shock Lances and Knight shield from the 1.4 beta Knight list.

But forge knits and imperial knights are not the same thing though.

Regardless of being a big AdMech fan, I don't know too much about the fluff (i like the game pa more then the lore part). Why aren't normal knits (lancers, palladins etc) in the titan or skitarii lists? Does it conflict too much with the fluff?

Forge Knights are a fan created unit near as I can tell. I think the only fluff on them is their datasheet entry. I think 250 for 6 is a bit too much of a drop. They ARE pretty good if they don't break and if you can get them into an assault. They just aren't as good as using those point on a warhound or air support.

Right now they are about 62 points each. A detachment of 5 for 250 points comes in at 50 points each. The warhound is still pretty close competition though.

Or maybe 6 for 275? Or are you dead set that it has to be a formation of 5?

275 is the cost of single warhound, no competition between a fearless war engine and a pack of forge knight. The cost needs to be less than 275

Then 250? Sounds fine enough. Maybe 225 for 6 are to cheap.

I think I like a 5 strong detachment since it fits nicely with the 5/10 formations the Skitarii have and it sits a bit better with me balance wise if we drop a model since we are talking about a 125 point drop in cost if we aim for 250 points.

I'll put up a poll for this in a few minutes.
