Yeah agreed. Love the board and it's great to see those awesome trench sections getting a workout again!

Hey All,

Back again with some progress on the big table. Today was all about getting some texture onto the tiles. I consulted with the oracle that is the FW Masterclass Vol 1. I drew in some creek lines and cut them out with a scalpel. Then, taking the technique from them I hit the boards hard with a wire brush. This causes the board to get a stippled effect which allows you to get some purchase on it. I then rubbed the board with the wire brush to make it quite rough.

Once this was complete, I used a hot air gun and waved it over the board to melt the foam a little. This enhances to effect from the brush as the foam recedes with the heat from the gun. You get a great effect. Last act of this part is to paint the tiles with render effect paint. This gives the board added texture and will be the bases for the top layers and colours to come.

I did some work on the fortress as well. A little more platicard to make the interior work. I have been toying with what to do with the outer wall. I had a single 40K defensive bastion. I have donated it to the cause. I have modified it some what. getting the heights uniform for the wall. Anyway there was a gun emplacement in the wall so I modified it. Loyalists beware the walls have guns.

I ran out of paint, the can has served me well through a number of projects to date. Hardware store tomorrow.

Enjoy
Aaron

Coming on well :) Good work on the wall guns.

If you fancy splashing out a bit of money to make it look particularly special, perhaps buy a brass etched Sons of Horus icon sheet from Forge World and cover the fortress in lots of SoH icons, clearly indicating it's dedication to the new Warmaster.

Or just go visit for a while, I just spent a couple of years on a working holiday in Australia and it was great to meet up with Aaron and various others about the country.

Jimmy,

With a table that big there is no room. By the way, there are two of those tables in there. A day off terrain today so there will be no nice pictures. I will be getting some more render paint though.

Cheers
Aaron

Hey Guys,

Well today saw some good work go down range on the board. I managed a solid couple of hours work to get it moving forward. I managed to complete the texturing of all the open area tiles and the hills. Still no render effect paint so I still have about 8 tiles to paint to stage one.

Main effort today went into the fortress tiles. I have worked mainly on the centre as it is the basis for all other work. I have based the plasticard to get the effect I wanted. I now need to cap the edges so I will be off to the hobby stores tomorrow to get what I need. I have also added some detail, scavenging some items from both 40K and Epic sets.

Tomorrow I aim to get it completed and ready for painting. I will then step off to phase two and work on the corner and the gatehouse. Anyway on to the pics.

Enjoy
Aaron
